【Sam’s POV】

“Because I have joined your side.”

Cecile smiled, and I took another sip.

“So you think you are powerful enough to beat Solomon?”

“Hmm? Of course not.”

“Huh?”

“Solomon is much stronger than me, you know. There’s no way in hell I can beat that guy.”

“Then…”

“But hey, power is not the only thing that can help you win a war. Well, you’ll understand someday.”

Wars are won by strategies, and the power of individuals is just one of the variables of those strategies.

“I see. And, the Dark Hero?”

I could almost hear the gulps of everyone present here.

“About-”

But before I could start, a familiar voice called me from behind me.

“Ah, there you are Samael! I’ve been looking everywhere for you.”

Of course, the one who had barged in uninvited was none other than Phiria.

“Oh, Mary. Sorry, I got a bit busy.”

“How mean of you to leave me behind like that. I expect that you’ll compensate me accordingly.”

Wat?

“How about we discuss this later?”

“All right. You seem to be busy.” Then she turned to others. “Hello everyone. I’m Mary, Samael’s partner.”

“Travelling partner.”

Don’t create misunderstandings, oi.

“Same thing. Anyway, I’m sure everyone here is already familiar with me. Right, Sir Lantz?”

Cecile looked at me.

“It’s good to see you again, Mary.” Lantz’s smile was stiff. “How are you doing?”

“Thanks to your help the other day, I’m doing perfectly fine.”

“I see.”

An awkward silence enveloped the room, and so to dispel it I started with a clap.

“Well, since you’re already here, then you might as well join us. Do you mind, Ms. Cecile?”

“No. It would be a pleasure to have her join us.”

“Thank you.”

Phiria stood behind my chair with that.

“So, as I was saying, the Dark Hero, as the name suggests, is a Hero chosen to protect the demons.”

“A Hero……. To protect the……. Demons?”

“Oh, you seemed surprised.” I turned to Michael who seemed to have gone into a state of shock. “Did you think that the demons are just your inanimate enemies that must be killed?”

“O-of course I didn’t!”

He replied in a fluster.

“Hooh, you are better than I expected.”

“What is that supposed to mean, Mr. Samael?”

“What is with that scary expression, Ms. Liebert? All I meant was that he’s not naïve enough to not see his enemies as living beings.”

“Really?”

Her voice was incredibly cold. Looks like she still suffers from that accursed disease.

“What else could I mean?”

“Hmph.”

She grunted and looked the other way.

“We have derailed from the topic.”

Cecile brough the conversation back on track.

“Right. As I was saying, the Dark Hero is the one who protects the demons, but the way he is chosen is different from ours. Instead of summoning one from the other world, a demon is chosen from their own ranks by the Demon King. That particular demon is then given the blessing of the Demon God and turned into a Dark Hero.”

Well, if the Dark Hero is the one I think he is, then he wouldn’t really need my blessing.

“Then that means, the demons have three special existences among them; the Demon King Solomon, the Demon King’s sister Regina, and the Dark Hero.”

“W-well, we have 36 Heroes, so we should be fine.” Sherry reassured.

Hmm? 36? Wtf? My class had a total of 40 students. Excluding me, Chloe and Susan from that, there should be 37 Heroes. Their math is blowing my mind.

“No, you aren’t fine. Not at all. If the Dark Hero Solomon has chosen is that man, then you’re everything but fine.”

I made a show of nervously gripping my cup and swigging the tea in it in a single gulp.

“Anyway, with this I have finished my end of the deal. So-”

“Wait.” Cecile stopped me. “Please tell me about the man that Solomon might have chosen.”

Hmm?

“Believe me, Cecile. You do not want to know about him, not now.”

I stole a glance at Michael and Sherry, and made sure that Lantz noticed it.

“But-”

“Let it go, Princess.” As expected, he stepped forward to help me. “Let’s believe in him for now, okay?”

He flashed a slight smile at me, and I nodded to convey my thanks.

“With this-”

“Yeah, I know. With the authority of the Third Princess, I allow Samael to work alongside the Heroes.”

“What about Mary though?”

I don’t think Phiria would be willing to leave my side.

“We still don’t know her battle prowess-”

“Ah, don’t worry about that. She’s stronger than me.”

“S-stronger?!”

Michael squealed and took a step back, staring at her with widened eyes after that.

“Oi oi oi, are you serious?”

Lantz grumbled under his breath.

“Of course. Despite how she might seem, she’s actually really strong.”

“Samael.” Phiria narrowed her eyes. “What do you mean by that?”

Oh?

“I simply meant that despite how delicate you might seem due to your beautiful features, you are still so powerful that it’s not even funny.”

“I-I see. Thank you.”

Easy.

“How smooth…..”

Nope, I never heard Sherry’s murmur.

“Is that so?” Cecile held her chin and thought for some moments. “Then I shall allow it.”

“Thank you.”

“As for the finer details-”

“I think we’ll have to discuss that later; we have a guest.”

“Hmm-!”

Her groan was cut off by the shadow that was cast on her by the large figure that suddenly appeared behind her. With azure eyes and an imposing figure, the one who had appeared was-

“Ah, it’s you, Sir Leige. Please do not scare me like that.”

Lantz heaved a sigh of relief and let go of the sword he had gripped on reflex.

“Forgive me for suddenly appearing like that.” He turned to Cecile. “I’m here on the King’s orders.”

“I see.”

Leige Lauder. The Fae Lord; the King of Faes.

Faes were beings who looked like humans but had brownish eagle like wings on their back. They were taller than your average human, and had brown eyes just like their wings.

And the one who led and ruled over them was this man in front of me; Leige Lauder, the Fae Lord.

Power and authority flowed from every fibre of his being as his eyes focused on me. It was clear that he was much stronger than the Hero Michael or humanity’s strongest Lantz. He was in a league of his own.

No wonder that Cecile was so confident that they wouldn’t lose to the demons.

Of course, her confidence was misplaced. After all-

“Are you the human, Samael?”

-his eyes were also coloured by despair.

“Yes I am, O Lord of Faes.”

“O-Oi!” Lantz nudged my sides as he noticed the impudence in my answer. “Don’t act so cocky!”

“Lantz.”

“Y-yes, Sir Leige?”

“You’ve found an interesting human.”

He smiled, but it was clear that his smile wasn’t reaching his eyes.

“I heard you have information on Solomon. Care to share it with me?”

Where the fuck did he hear that from?

“Of course. But…” I looked at those around me. “Could we move to somewhere more peaceful?”

Leige also looked at those around him, and then at the sky.

“You’ve parted the clouds nicely. Shall we enjoy them from up there?”

“That would be interesting.”

He extended his hand towards me.

“Hold this tightly then-”

“Ah, no. I can fly by myself.”

I replied as I casted the flying magic spell on me and started levitating on the ground.

“I’ll see you up there.”

With that as my parting words, I flew straight towards the open sky. However-

“You are interesting, human.”

Leige was closely following behind me, and effortlessly at that.

“Am I? Thanks.”

“This should be high enough, right?”

We were already a few kilometres above the ground.

“I’d like to say that we should go beyond infinity, but I shall refrain.”

With that I stopped, and so did Leige, in a position where our eyes were at the same level.

“So, the information-”

“Before that, Leige.” He furrowed his brows at the abrupt interruption. “Have you ever fought Solomon?”

“I haven’t got the chance to yet.”

“I see. That’s unfortunate.”

“Now-”

“By the way, Leige. I don’t see any faes in this city.” I looked all around me, but found nary a fae in this entire city. “Why is that?”

“You-”

“Do you guys live in a different city? Or are your numbers so low that I cannot find them? Or-”

“Silence.”

With bloodshot eyes, he almost reached for my neck, but I caught his wrist midway. He tried to free it, but couldn’t.

‘Limit Off’.

“Please do not attack me so suddenly, Leige. I might get scared and accidentally kill you.” I said as I increased the strength of my grip and broke his arm. “See, just like that.”

However, as I let go of his hand, contrary to my expectations, what appeared on his face was a manic grin.

“I see.” He rubbed the place where I had gripped and then healed it instantly. “You really are…….. interesting.”

Of course not.

The interesting one is you, Leige. Really, really, interesting.
