【3rd person’s POV】
“What were you saying again?”
Sherry could only look at her with an agape mouth. She came back to her senses when Phiria waved her hand in front of her.
“O-oh, uh, I mean…” She sputtered. “What was that?”
“Ah, I was just taking care of a pest.”
“Pest?”
“Nothing you need to worry about. You just do what you do best, and I’ll do what I do best.”
Sherry felt a chill run down her spine.
“Which is?” She squinted, but Phiria only smiled in return.
“Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some urgent matters to take care of.” Phiria stood up and headed towards the door.
“W-wait, you are leaving already?! What about Sam?!” Sherry shrieked as she remembered the original topic of conversation.
“What about him?”
“Weren’t you talking about how he could not feel since the moment of his birth?”
“Ah, that.” Phiria nodded slowly. “I think that’s a topic best explained by Sam himself.” With that, she left the room leaving Sherry with a lot to think about.
Satisfied with her work, Phiria now turned towards her second destination. Formerly a normal room of this villa, it had now been turned into an isolated place guarded by knights to keep the ‘danger’ inside.
Two such knights were standing beside the door to the room she wanted to enter. Usually, they would have stopped her, but she had long since manipulated their senses so that they couldn’t register her very existence. So, she opened the door and stepped inside, causing the ‘danger’ to look in her direction.
“We’re leaving.” Phiria immediately gave her instructions.
“What? Where?” Serasta furrowed her brows.
“I need to go shopping.”
“And why do you want me to go with you?”
“Look, are you coming or not?” Phiria sighed.
“Fine. I was bored anyway.” Serasta sighed as well.
Being locked in was sure to bore anyone, but she couldn’t really fault them for that. It was only natural for the humans to fear the former Dark Hero, even if the said Hero was bound to a slave contract. Of course, she still wanted to kill them.
With her approval, Phiria left the room with Serasta in tow. The latter was worried about the guards, but as she discovered, they didn’t even bat an eye when she left from the door right in front of them.
“And where exactly are we going?”
“To the market.”
“With me, a demon?” Serasta frowned. “What will the humans think about you?”
“As if I care about what insects think about me.” Phiria scoffed. “Besides, that only applies when they know that you’re a demon. Just change your appearance a bit and we’re all good.”
“But what about my aura? Those sensitive to mana will know that I’m a demon.”
“Leave that to me. I’m not a Goddess for nothing.” Phiria smirked.
“I understand.” Serasta nodded.
She invoked her magic spell and started her transformation while walking. Her eyes turned cyan, her hairs formed a ponytail and she got a pair of specs to wear. Her clothes changed too; from a loose robe to a white gown fit for a lady.
Satisfied, Phiria made it so that no one would be able to sense Serasta’s mana and hence identify her as a demon.
By the time they were done with this, they were already at the exit of the villa. Of course, thanks to the presence erasure magic of Phiria, none of the inhabitants of the villa were aware of their departure.
“Hmm, what a fine day.” Phiria looked up at the sun. “Makes me want to stain it crimson.”
Huh? Serasta tilted her head. What does she mean by that? However, she did not dare voice her doubts; she still remembered what happened last time.
“So, what exactly are we going to do?” She posed a different, safer question.
“As I said earlier, we are merely going shopping.”
“Really?” Serasta furrowed her burrows; why wouldn’t she?
After all, several gates to Phiria’s inventory had appeared around her. Black spear heads popped out from them, one of which was still dripping with blood.
“Of course.” Phiria smiled back as she fired the several spears towards the sky.
The spears headed far into the distance, into the direction of the market of the city.
The market, or the commercial region as known in the official documents, was located in the eastern region of the huge Painia Duchy and was one of its major sources of income. Beyond the walls of the easter region was another country, so it had become a hub for merchants from both the countries to trade. There were also special regions set up to cater the needs of the nobles; from auction houses for exotic materials to bars and restaurants with the finest cuisine, everything was there in the centre of the market.
The villa was located in the central region of the duchy, so it would take them some time to reach the market if they were to travel on foot. Of course, they weren’t going to do that.
After firing her spears for some unknown reason, Phiria opened a teleportation portal.
“Let’s go now, shall we?”
“Haaah…” Serasta sighed. “Whatever you say.”
So together, they stepped in through the portal and arrived at a secluded alley. Serasta checked around to see if any witnesses needed to be eliminated, but it seemed that they were fine for the time being.
“Let’s go.”
Serasta turned to Phiria and her eyes widened. For a moment she lost all sense of reason and felt a primal desire towards Phiria. Fortunately, she regained her senses in time and saved herself the shame of doing something ‘bad’.
For some reason, Phiria’s entire appearance- no, the way she registered Phiria’s appearance had changed. If she looked like a run of the mill country girl earlier, now she looked like a Goddess who had descended from the heavens to bless her subjects.
Right, she is a Goddess. Serasta belatedly reminded herself.
She was unsure of whether doing this was right or not, but she was already too late to stop Phiria from stepping out of the alley and onto the main road. As expected, the eyes of the bystanders turned to her and were stuck there, captivated by her beauty.
“What are you waiting for?” Phiria turned to Serasta.
“R-right.” She joined her and they started walking through the main road.
Of course, due to the sheer beauty of Phiria, they caught everyone’s attention no matter where they went. A horde of men were already following them, their eyes glued to the sensually swaying hips of Phiria.
The person in question seemed unfazed, while Serasta was nervous. Nervous because she was finding it hard to hide her killing intent. Surrounded by all these humans, every fibre of her being wanted her to pull out her artilleries, mow them down and turn them into minced meat. But she could not do so due to the pact with Samuel.
Come to think of it-
“I’m rather late in asking this, but what exactly does Samuel-”
“It’s Lord Hayden for you.” Both her gaze and tone were as sharp as a knife.
“…Right. I’m sorry.” Serasta gulped. “So, what are Lord Hayden’s goals?”
“His true goals are far greater than you can imagine.” Phiria scoffed. “But let me put it in this way; for this world, he is planning a revolution.”
For this world? Ah. She suddenly remembered.
“Right, you are Gods. No, wait, I remember Lord Hayden saying something about being much more than a God. What was that?”
“Ah, that’s simple.” Phiria replied without batting an eye at her ever-increasing admirers. “He is an Administrator of this Universe. In other words, he holds authority over one of the fundamental building blocks of the Universe. To put it in a simpler way, he could overturn the Universe as we know it with a single snap of his finger.”
“Wha?!” Serasta almost shouted out but swiftly covered her mouth and looked around to see if anyone had heard her. “I-is that true?”
“Of course. Why would I lie?” Phiria retorted as she turned towards an alleyway and entered it.
“Then what is he doing here? If he is so powerful, then he could do anything he wanted, right?”
“Tsk tsk tsk.” Phiria glanced back at her and waved her finger. “Not everything can be achieved through mere power. And even if we put that aside, our opponents are just as strong as him.”
A T-section came in the alley they were walking in, and Phiria unhesitatingly turned into the left one. This one was less well-lit than the previous one and was narrower as well.
By now, most of the people following them had left. Serasta was slightly worried about what Phiria planned to do, but judged that she would at least not harm her due to Samuel’s orders. Also, there were more pressing concerns to deal with.
“O-opponents as strong as you guys?” Serasta gulped. “Then why have you recruited me? I will be of absolutely no help.”
“Don’t worry about that.” Phiria turned into another narrow, dark alleyway. “You will never have to fight them, because as you said, you’ll be totally useless if you did. The right cogs in the right places, if you will.”
Serasta heaved a sigh of relief, and finally turned her attention to another anomaly.
“Ms. Phiria…”
“It’s alright.”
“Oh my, what beautiful women we have here.” Suddenly, someone called them out from behind, just as they were about to exit the alley.
This had happened before while they were walking through the market, but this time Phiria decided to respond.
“Thank you for your compliment.”
“My pleasure.” The young man smiled. “Would you like to accompany us for lunch?”
“By us, do you mean everyone present here?” Phiria looked at the two large men standing behind the young man, and then glanced back at the three men who were blocking the exit.
“Yes.”
“And what if we refuse?” Phiria tilted her head innocently.
“I’d rather not put any wound on your beautiful skin.” The young man smiled as he put his hand on his sword.
Serasta immediately raised her guard, ready to strike within the blink of an eye, but she suddenly realised that she didn’t need to.
“Oh my, what a gentleman.” Phiria smiled and started walking towards the man. “I suppose it is only right of me to return your… courtesy.”
“Exactly. Now- guaaahhh!” The man suddenly shrieked as his knees were shattered.
Before the other men could make sense of the situation, 5 black spears suddenly descended from the heavens and struck them right in their head. The spears effortlessly impaled them from the top to bottom, thus successfully bisecting their corpses into two.
The sounds of the spears getting stuck in the ground were followed by the squelching sounds of meat falling.
“I-impossible! Argh! W-what are you-”
“Shh.” Phiria signalled him to stop speaking, and he inadvertently did so. “From your actions, I assume that you are human traffickers.” She stood in front of the kneeling man; his legs severed from the knees by the fallen spears.
A long, rather thick needle appeared out of thin air and hovered in front of the man’s right eye.
“Since you were so kind as to come find me yourself, it would be incredibly rude of me to let this opportunity go to waste. Now, I have some questions for you, Mr. Trafficker.”
“Aaaaggggghhhhhhh!” The man howled as the needle started penetrating his eye slowly.
His vision was dyed crimson, and through it he saw the woman’s face adorned with a smile resembling a Grim Reaper’s.
“For starters, where is your base?” Phiria asked her first question.
