【Sam’s POV】

“There’s trouble downstairs,” the fellow masked man whispered to the clerk in front of me.

He said it in a really low voice, probably because the clerk was dealing with a customer aka moi, but I heard it nonetheless because of my superior hearing.

“Then just kick them out,” the clerk whispered back in a matter-of-fact tone.

Makes sense.

“It’s a noble…”

“…” The clerk quietly sighed, then turned back to me with a smile. “Forgive me, sir, but I must leave you for a moment. Something urgent has come up that I must deal with.”

“Don’t worry, take your time.”

“Thank you, sir.”

This man is too polite.

“Ah,” I asked the masked man. “Are my friends involved in the trouble you are talking about?”

I mean, if it turns out that one of those wankers got into a fight with a noble because both of them chose the same dress, I would rather jump out of the window than face the embarrassment.

“…” he seemed taken aback and glanced at the clerk, who covertly nodded in response. “Yes.”

Where the fuck is my window?

“What’s the trouble?”

Let’s ask to buy time to search for the window.

Hmm, it was kinda careless of me to not plan my escape routes beforehand, now that I think about it.

“…A noble seems to be pestering your friend.”

Oh my, so it wasn’t my friends’ fault. No jumping out windows then, I suppose.

Sadge.

“Seems like I’ll have to accompany you,” I said to the clerk.

“Right away, sir,” the clerk nodded, and together, we made our way towards the ground floor.

“By the way, if worst comes to worst, can I use violence?” I asked him.

It doesn’t really matter to me but, it’s this clerk who will have to deal with the aftermath of my actions, so it’s only natural to confirm with him first.

“Well, if you think you can get away with the consequences… please keep the damage to the minimum,” he smiled politely.

That’s mah man.

“Don’t worry, there will be no consequences. I’ll also pay for any damages incurred as a result of my actions.”

Well, more like Sherry will because I’m apparently dirt poor, but hey. And if she refuses, I’ll kidnap this troublesome noble and extort money out of him.

“Thank you for your generosity.”

“Mention not.”

Contrary to my expectations, we didn’t hear any shouting or sounds of things shattering as we neared our destination.

It seemed like no physical violence was involved in the so-called trouble, or maybe it was already over and we were about to be greeted by mangled corpses everywhere.

Unfortunately, the sight we were greeted with was…. quite normal.

Nothing had been broken, no blood had been splattered on the walls, no limbs were lying away from their lifeless torsos.

Looks like the entourage of absolutely batshit crazy strong women had somehow managed to keep themselves under control.

Holy shit.

And how boring.

Should I just go back and check out the shirt? There doesn’t seem to be anything for me to do here.

Well, let’s check the situation out first.

I looked towards where my friends were supposed to be, but it was just Sherry there. It seemed the others were still in the fitting rooms.

No wait, correction. It was Sherry and a flamboyantly dressed man.

Sherry was sitting on a sofa listening to the incessant chattering of the man in front of her.

“Would you like to accompany me to dinner, my lady?” The man asked Sherry.

“No.”

Oof.

Well, her reply is understandable, considering she’s in love with a ‘Michael’.

⟦Michass.⟧

Right, Michass. Thank you for the correction, Simone.

“Then how about a drink?” The man was persistent, however.

Why, though? Why does he think that a woman who rejected his invitation for dinner would agree to drink with him?

“Nope.”

“Then how about going on a walk with me then?”

The man’s dedicated, that I can tell ya.

“How many times do I have to tell you?!” Sherry suddenly snapped and stood up. “I am not interested in you! Please go away!”

“Not interested in me?” The man scoffed as if he couldn’t believe her words. “I’m the Count, you know.”

Of course, the man ignored Sherry’s rejection like I ignore my will to live.

⟦What?⟧

I mean like a drunk father ignores the starving children of his family.

⟦No, seriously, what?⟧

⟦Oh, come on, Simone. Can I not make a casual suicide joke in good faith?⟧

Why so serious, mate?

⟦Y-you are not supposed to make jokes about suicide.⟧

⟦It’s the 21st century, Simone, go read a book. Everyone makes a joke about killing themselves.⟧

⟦J-just what kind of dystopian society did you come from?⟧

⟦It’s just the modern age.⟧

I do NOT care who you are!” Sherry exclaimed and closed in on him. “And frankly, I have had enough of you!”

Oh shit, Sherry’s about to go John Wick on his ass.

Imagine trying to pick a girl up but she kills you with a fucking pencil. Brutal.

“Sorry to say this, mate,” I put my hand on his shoulder before Sherry could put a sword through his throat. “She’s already taken.”

As sad a reality as it is, men are more likely to respect a man’s right over a woman’s choice.

In other words, it’ll be easier to make him back away if I tell him that Sherry is already in a loving relationship with someone else than explaining to him that Sherry is just not interested in him.

Well, she’s not exactly in a relationship, but she’s in love with Michass, so she might as well be considered taken.

“Wha!? How dare you touch me, mongrel?!” He reeled back from me in what seemed to be disgust.

Mongrel, huh?

Hmm, should I make him disappear?

⟦Absolutely.⟧

What? You are supposed to be my voice of reason, Simone.

Never mind, I can already see the flaw in my statement.

⟦What exactly do you mean by that, Sam?⟧

⟦Absolutely nothing, mademoiselle.⟧

“And you say she’s been taken? By whom? Surely, not by you,” he scoffed.

Wow, how rude.

“Act-”

“You are right,” Sherry interrupted me, came over to my side and interlocked her arm with mine. “I’m taken by him.”

Of course, leave it to her to make things worse.

「What the fuck are you doing, Sherry?」 I asked her through the telepathy like magic spell.

「Just play along,」 she replied.

“Haaa? Seriously? With this boring, ugly looking guy?” The Count seemed to be offended.

Seems like his caveman brain cannot comprehend why a woman would choose me over him.

“It is what it is,” I replied.

“Seriously, just ditch this trash and come have lunch with me.”

Holy shit, this guy’s persistent.

“Trash?” Sherry seemed bewildered at his words. “The only trash I can see here is you, Count.”

Damn, Sherry’s going all out.

Hmm, let’s see.

This guy said he’s a Count, right? If I remember correctly, a Count is an influential noble in this society.

I see an opportunity for a play here.

“Huh? Come again?” The Count was taken aback.

“In fact, you are the biggest piece of trash I have ever seen in my life,” Sherry doubled down on her onslaught. “And trust me, that means a lot coming from me. You are a mistake of an existence that should never have been born. I’m sure not a single day goes by when your parents don’t regret having you. Seriously, if I was you, I’d just start keeping a potted plant with me at all times to replace the air I wasted. You scum.”

「Woah, that level of personal attack was uncalled for, Sherry.」

She’s going to get cancelled on twitter for all that.

「…Sorry, I couldn’t hold back,」 she confessed. 「But frankly, I’ve had enough of men ignoring my boundaries and wishes. I was powerless before, but now… I can kill a trifle like him whenever I want.」

Hot damn, this woman is drunk on her power. Better stop her before she turns into the haughty stereotypical villain and gets killed by the Hero and his friends.

Not that it will actually happen because, you know, I’m here, but as they say, prevention is better than cure.

「Fair enough.」

“You… how dare you!”

And here we go.
