ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 264: Full Blown Game of Tag Part 1
「Uooohhh!?」
If there was one thing that the self-proclaimed Goldunine managed to teach me, it is this: I get hit by one of those flashy snake attacks, and it is all over. And because I completely understand that, getting caught by an attack like that would truly be a meaningless death. However, it seems that I would have to learn on the fly to avoid those attacks, without any real time to practice. I think that reaching Nirvana would be easier of a task here.
SMACK! I could hear it right behind me, the eerie sound of snake’s fangs hitting against each other when the beasts failed to get their prey.
Somehow, after that I felt like wearing the Star Cloak would be the death of me here, and so I removed it in a hurry. This proved to be a good decision, right after I did that I saw another set of fangs closing on the location in which the Star Cloak was just a moment ago.
「Oi, you stupid asshole! Stop that! I could have seriously died from that just now!」
Matching both timing and the position, while running I throw my fist forward and fire it just before I am about to hit the ground. The crystal pillar is activated and extends towards the place where my fist was about to hit, changing my position and propelling me further.
Creating a sort of ramp for myself, I jumped on top of the crystal pillar, which allowed me to avoid another attack by the Nagas that were after me, their mouths once again hitting nothing but an empty space. I activate Flip Float and jump forward, intending to jump on the tunnel’s ceiling. Once I get there, I will use the combination of both Overflow and Zero Gravity to put some distance in between us. I start to run at a tremendous speed.
「Shit, did I miss it……!?」
I have escaped to the Vorpal Bunnies side of the tunnel upon reflex. But I was going to die anyway, wouldn’t it be actually better to run some more at the Goldunine side of the area and collect some more information? And besides, even if I continue to run back towards where the Bunnies are, just what exactly will I be able to accomplish there?
Up until now, it was the self-proclaimed Goldunine that was attacking the Vorpal Bunnies…… someone completely different from my current opponent. As long as the real Goldunine chases me, there is no rule that prohibits her from entering the Vorpal Bunnies side, isn’t there? But then, why would she leave the invasion to one of her offspring, and not lead the charge herself?
Oh yeah, that’s right. I completely forgot. There is Weissash on the Vorpal Bunnies side. So it is most probably that Weissash, yet another possible Unique Monster, serves as a deterrent mechanism for this conflict.
Or rather, let’s look at the things from a different perspective. The names of the Unique Monsters and their “titles”. “Gravekeeper” Wezaemon. Kutanid “Of the Abyss”. “Inexhaustible” Goldunine. ‘Nightprowler” Luukan. “Heavenly” Siegwurm. And then there is the “Immortal” one…… Does that make Weissash the immortal one of the group?
「Aaaahhh!!! Dangerous! Dangerous! Way too dangerous!!!」
Shit, everything here is exactly as sturdy as it looks, and precise movements here are really hard to pull off……!
It was a good thing that I managed to avoid those snakes by drifting on the tunnel’s ceiling, but it was actually not all that great of a solution in the long run. The tunnels were full of bumps, twists and turns, so there was always a risk of me crushing into a wall as well. Especially at the speed at which I was constantly going.
「Whoa there, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa…… Uwah!?」
My body loses control for a moment, but if I try to forcibly correct it in any way, I may risk falling onto the ground. Calm down here…… Oh, but wait. I know of a good way to stabilize myself.
「I’m going to borrow your back for a moment, snake guy!」
As soon as the recast time is over, I jump off the ceiling and plunge myself towards the ground, abusing the mechanics of some of the skills that increase my jumping power and that do not really have any recast time of their own. Thank God that skills like that tend to exist there.
The moment the skills stop working, the proper gravity pulls me towards the ground, but instead of landing on the ground, I actually aim towards the head of one of the Nagas that was just raising up…… Man, this thing is ugly. Like seriously ugly. And it’s coming closer! While still in the air, I do a somersault and land on the snake’s back, sliding down its back towards the ground.
Oh shit, the current landing will fail if I don’t use any insta visibility here! Even though it was meant for really dangerous situations, if I don’t use it here it will be all over. Ahh, but the recast time…… Hmm, what that? Ahh! A sword of poison from behind my back!
「Ugh!?」
I realized that when I tried to use my left scorpion gauntlet. Shit! My left arm took a hit!
Because of the curse that was already affecting me, the self-proclaimed Goldunine’s “poison curse” was not taking its root in me for good, but some of its effects were still there alright. Right now, I felt as though there was an electric current coursing through my arm, making it all numb and rendering me unable to lift it or use it correctly.
As for the damage…… was it my Good Luck that allowed my arm to not become completely broken or to fall right off? If so, it means that I have used up the last preventive means here against damage. Or maybe it is because my body has some sort of poison immunity?
「First to go is the left hand…… Ufufu, I wonder? Will you cry and try to hide? Fly, fly for your life, little mouse!」
「You fucking brat……」
Do you wish to receive another forehead flick so badly!? It was good thing that I would not receive a poison debuff here, but with that level of injury my left arm has become literally useless.
「I have no idea about the clear conditions for this quest, like at all……」
The self-proclaimed Goldunine has been defeated…… Well, technically speaking, but it is the truth that she is now more…… But what am I supposed to do with this thing that want to play tag so bad? The quest’s name is “Defense of the Bunny Country”, so I would believe that defeating the real Goldunine has nothing to do with it. Rather, I would be inclined to believe that once the large scale battle is over, so would be the quest.
But in other words, unless I manage to do something about this Goldunine here, the battle would not end.
This would mean that we have more or less three options ahead of us: to run away, to fight, and to accept death. Oh, what’s that? A light? Ahh, that’s right, they were mentioning something about pushing the front line as far as possible…… But wouldn’t that mean that if the defense was a huge success, the Vorpal Bunnies would get closer towards the place where I was fighting the self-proclaimed Goldunine?
Isn’t that like…… really bad?
「Everyone, get the hell out of here!!!」
Thinking about it now, isn’t what I’m doing right now basically a monster train!? Ahh, screw it, Plan B it is, then!
