ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 386: Side Story 7 – Extremely noisy, but unbelievably peaceful (Compared to normal times) – Part 2

Needless to say, the pawn shop actually had to implement various restrictions onto the things that could be sold there, for oversaturating the shop’s ware with strong items or large quantity of something would have led to creating insanely powerful NPCs, which would have become a problem in an out of itself faster than anyone would imagine.

「Yeah, I can imagine. After all, it is a widely known story that some idiot busted a whole lot of cash in order to arm himself at the “Golden Demon” and challenged one of the Rankers that way. And the best thing? He actually managed to win, the absolute madman. Sure, it was for a very short time, but still.」

「I personally don’t think that any cheap tricks like that are going to work against the Raid Boss. He is way too much of a beast for that.」

「I know that we keep on saying that, but Ranking rewards are truly the works of art without an equal……」

「Hey! Express delivery from someone tracking the Raid Boss! Looks like someone is on the move!」

What!? The other players have become even noisier than before. In this game, the Raid Boss rarely even moves on someone, and the other players rarely even think about approaching him of their own volition. And if you were to encounter him anywhere on the map, you can be sure that in the next minute you would have been dead for sure.

But right now the Raid Boss was on the move. Because of that, the other players started to float through the air, converging onto his location.

「So, is he really aiming for Matsuribayashi?」

「No, I mean, who knows? It would be weird for the ultimate predator to go towards its prey when the prey would eventually find their way towards it, right?」

「Isn’t that way more romantic if the big bad guy comes for the hero, beats him half to death and then lets him live so that the Hero could become stronger?」

「Ahh, somehow that concept…… Ouch, my chest! I knew it, such romances are no good for my poor old heart!」

「Nothing beats watching two apex predators having a go at it , huh?」

「B-Breaking news! “Gekukujo” and “Kui” just got Divine Punished!!! Guren Ningdo Grenade is on the move!」

For some reason, the words of the next player that arrived on the scene made even bigger of a commotion.

Players with two nicknames are all extremely talented, although not in the same sense. About that Ranker just now, Kyogoku had no idea what his name meant and what exactly was his playstyle. But judging by the reaction of her surroundings, some major development must have occurred on the battlefield.

「This event is truly horrible. Action keep on moving forward without waiting for the spectators to bare witness to it.」

「Well, as long as Guren Ningdo is out there, he can cause quite the stir.」

「They should just nerf the fireworks! Why does this shit deal so much damage!?」

「Could it be that he is the reason why the Raid Boss is on the move?」

「It feels like the fig flower blooming for some reason.」

「And I feel as though it’s been ages since we have seen some good action! So let’s get to it, and let’s get to it fast!」

For some reason, the happy way in which all those ghosts were talking amongst one another was causing Kyogoku a whole lot of frustration.

If it was not for the fact that they were already dead, Kyogoku would have Divine Punished all of them long ago. But for no she had to contain this strong urge that was growing inside of her chest.

Why? I wonder why it is like that?

(This is so frustrating. I was so focused on my goals that and was not paying enough attention which resulted in me getting killed and it’s a little bit…….)

It was then that Kyogoku noticed something…… No, she realized something.

「Aahh, that’s why…… Things are exactly how they are……」

The urge to get new items, the effective value of experience points, rehabilitation, or being downright mad and unhinged…… Not everyone out there has the same sense of mission or purpose, but we all have certain urges that emerge from the sea of our minds. Urges that are really hard to surpress.

That is why the ones who are able to stay on top of everyone else are the players able to understand the driving forces behind other players.

In other words, every player of Bakumatsu Online uses the same fixed expression in order to get that wild impulse to get things done. This is really a kind of brainwashing in and out of itself, one that allow you to go down in a fight of one versus five without any regrets and having the feeling of a duty fulfilled.

「Divine Punishment……!!」

Those two words are like a mantra. A magic password that allows one’s mind to hop onto a completely different trajectory and shift the blame for any kind of travesty or atrocity towards the Heaven’s, dubbing it their will.

This does not mean anything in the game world. Nothing changes, there are no skills assigned to that phrase and there is no visible stat boost. The sword slashes won’t become faster or stronger and the bullets being fired won’t score critical damage more often.

But this spell serves to get rid the minds of the players of any lingering doubt. Morals, good intentions, common sense…… all of the above is dispelled in the presence of the almighty “Divine” in the name of which the violence is about to be implemented.

That is the reason why all the players of Bakumatsu Online love to utter those words, no matter their playstyle or occupation: “Divine Punishment”.

「Hoo, it seems that you have a really good eyes right there……」

「The gears are still turning, and the bean paste in between them keeps on squealing……」

「Even if you excel at fighting with a single sword, it is a good idea to learn the basics of other fighting styles as well. After all, knowing yourself is like knowing your enemy……」

「Eeh? Is this some sort of a pattern? Some words that you have to tell the Ranker whenever you come into contact with them?」

「No, it’s something that I have come up with based on how insanely strong the Rankers seem to be. Pretty good catchphrase, huh?」

For the time being, people are going to continue to thin out and die. That is why Kyogoku made a decision. She would no longer hesitate, no longer hold back. And that is because……

That was also the will of the Divine Heavens.

While the monsters that managed to adapt their ways of behavior to the harsh reality of the Bakumatsu Online, the situation on the event’s battlefield was about to undergo a rather drastic change.

That is because a certain confrontation was about to take place. On the one side of the field there was the “Raid Boss” Yura, the number one in the overall top ten ranking for the Bakumatsu Online’s player base. On the other side of the field there was “Matsuribayashi” Sanraku, a player who up until a while ago was way beyond the rankings, but now managed to score pretty big and move up in the world.
