ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 400 Part 1
ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 400: Thin One Jumping Out Again Part 1
When it comes to the food items that you can buy at Rabbitz, they can be divided into two distinct categories: carrots and…… Well, carrots.
So even though I was hungry as hell and had a craving for some juicy meat, the only thing I could buy to satiate my hunger were the carrots. So I bought a whole bunch of them and was now munching on one of them, since they were my field rations here.
I know that thanks to the title “Gourmet Tongue” even the basic food items started to taste a little bit better, but even so I did not wanted to risk overeating here, in case if it was going to affect my performance during combat. Better safe than sorry here.
But still…… Even though I was chewing and swallowing the carrots one after another, I was starting to get seriously afraid of a certain possibility: what if I’m going to get so immersed in this bland carrot taste that it will end up affecting my taste buds in real life? I would not want something like that to happen. I mean, depending on the situation it would not have been SO bad, but that situation was certainly not right now!
「Now then…… The trees are starting to become more and more sparse, and the brightness level is steadily increasing. This can only mean one thing! We are about to emerge in a completely new, never before seen area!」
When you are heading out from the frontline base and are heading towards the central part of the new continent, it is necessary for you to pass through two distinct areas first.
One of them is of course the Sea of Trees area. This place is, after all, the gateway into the new continent, a sort of rite of passage for all the newly arrived players. And judging from both Rei and Akitsu Akane have told me before, this area is connected to many other smaller locations and bioms across the entire continent.
There is that, and there is one more thing that I have learned whilst traversing this particular area. As I could see from my encounter with Tottori, as well as from the testimonies of both Rust and Mold and thanks to some vague remarks of Kyo-Timate, its seems that the Sea of Trees is actually an area where many different species tend to live.
Making long story short here, the Sea of Trees is the area that is meant only for the most advanced and experienced users of this game…… Or no, that’s not it. It’s something else entirely. In a sense this whole area is one big tutorial. A tutorial area for the things that we might expect that the Siegwurm the Heavently Emperor is going to throw our way, as well as the difficulty and complexity of the other World Quests that are sure to come after this one.
I guess that it is just as the Saint-chan said to me some time ago…… In order to have any real chance of winning against the Dragons, no matter what side we choose to back in this conflict, we will have to unite all the races of this world under our banner…… In other words, we must create our very own United States in this game. Whoa there now…… Ahh, God damn it. I guess that my thoughts have already become polluted thanks to some shitty President and his shitty game.
This is bad. At this rate the worlds of shitty games are going to combine with the worlds of other games inside of my brain, and I won’t be able to tell the difference between the two anymore.
「The desert, the desert, huh……?」
Just as you would expect from the desert, it is flat as a pancake and filled with sand. There may be some differences in elevation here down the road, but so far I can’t see anything that would even partially obstruct my field of view.
In other words, this flat expanse of land is going to be ideal for testing out my Critical Speed – Bradion –. There would be no other place better for this. However, much to my displeasure the foothold in this place is even worse than the one available at the Sea of Trees area. So this means more or less that the failure to stick the landing here will result in me dyeing the sands of the desert bright red.
Kuh, at least this place should provide me with more than one way of actually sticking the landing. Or at the very least something better than one leg only…… No, wait a second here.
「Maybe there is a way for me to actually shift the angle of the fall just before hitting the ground…… making diagonal……? Would that even work here……?」
Yeah, it seems like slipping and getting blown away would be the most common of issues in here. The desert area, it seems to be way more troublesome than I have initially expected.
「Muh, muh……」
I can sense it! The presence of people! …… Yeah, nice joke, I guess.
This is the effect of the enhanced Mask of the Bird-Eye’s View. Every time an NPC or an enemy mob enters my enhanced field of vision, I get that tingling sensation inside of me and I can feel as though my eyes focus on the points where the enemy or the NPC might be. It’s a neat little effect, but one with somewhat limited range.
So in other words, if my field of view suddenly fixes onto something and I can’t see anything there for some reason, it means that something IS there, but I am unable to perceive it for some reason.
Camouflaging yourself by burying yourself into the sand or the hole in the ground that you have dug? What a terrifying attention to detail. But I guess that this level of realism is kinda expected from a game like that. But even if Emul was here with me, you would have no way to hide!
「And now what?」
I can sense them approaching. The number of enemies here…… about three, I would say?
「A Knight, a Thief and a Magician……? Talk about convenient that this thing allows you to see things like that.」
I did not think that there would be any other players besides Rei who have managed to get this far and reach the desert area for now. But I mean, progress is a natural thing and it is something that cannot be avoided, but…… My name really stands out amongst the players. This might turn really ugly really soon.
They might want me to give them my autographs. Or they might want to shake my hand. Or take a screenshot with me. Worst case scenario, they may even want to ask me to join them on their adventure…… Which would net them a an Express Monster Train straight to Hell.
I’m not really in the mood for doing this, but…… I guess that as long as it is going to be Monster Player Kill the Bounty Hunters should not get involved in here…… Or at least I hope that this is going to be the case.
