ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 499: Two Judgements To Cut Off Sin Part 1

* * *

「Ahh, Rice Column-san says “I’ve made a mistake with understanding the effects of Good and Evil Bullets”. I would really like to make a proper comment on that fact, but for the time being I don’t really understand, so you’ll have to live with that mistake for now. Oh, and wouldn’t you know it? The Silver Mask is back with us.」

「My negotiating skills are Counter Stop!」

「You call blabbering something like that negotiating……?」

「Umm, we can see that right now No Face-san makes some pretty crazy moves out there, but is that really something that is befitting of a bad guy?」

「Hmm? Ahh, and here I was wondering what you could possibly be talking about here…… I guess that you can call that character a Sheriff? The moves that he is actually pulling off right now are the moves that the character with a similar playstyle from a certain other game used to make all the time. That game was called Dance Gun Duels if my memory serves me correctly.」

On the live feed from the battlefield the spectators could see both the bullets and guns furiously flying through the air, and when that was no longer an option there were also fists flying towards the TV-Head character, constantly pushing her back without a moment of a break.

When it comes to Amelia Sullivan, she is often described as a someone who is a “Relic of the Twentieth Century, but possessing both skills and ability of someone like Silvia Goldberg”…… and right about now that person was unilaterally being pushed back, with no room for her to make a comeback or counter. It was honestly quite puzzling to behold at the current moment, especially since Masked Hannya was so confident a mere moment ago.

「Dance Gun Duels? What is that supposed to be? Ahh, wait a minute, I think that I remember hearing about it somewhere before…… Ah! Now I remember! It’s that shooter fighting game that came out about two years ago, right?」

「Yes, that’s right. It was a pretty interesting and original game with a premise that every playable character in it was using firearms to fight. Of course the game had its assortment of issues, such as shotgun characters’ main attack being WAY too strong, but overall the experience with this game was……」

There is also that fact that even though Katsu was a Professional Gamer with a particular battle style that he created over the years of experience, he was forced to abandon all that and result to all sort of dirty tricks and shameful tactics just so he could maintain his seventy percent win rate against Sanraku when they did about one hundred duels. It was one of Katsu’s most cursed memories from the past, one that he decided to seal away and never go back to it no matter what.

「Ahh, it seems that even in the comment section there are quite a lot of people who are familiar with that title. Ah, and won’t you look at that! We seem to have someone who is in the know of what is going on now! The user named Gatling Clown who says that he used to play the Sheriff quite a lot back in the day. And they say that they are quite impressed with what they are seeing. They say that it is impossible to make a perfect copy of that particular playstyle in the different system, but the way in which No Face is emulating it seems to be pretty much perfect.」

「Say, Kei? What exactly is this No Face fellow doing right now?」

After discussing the contents of the comment section for a moment or two for a while, there was a sudden topic shift amongst the commentators. And as it stands out, the current day Professional Gamers are a combination of both natural talent and pure gaming skill, so a question like that could not possibly be omitted. Not when it was asked by someone who is regarded as the Number One Professional Gamer in the entire United States of America.

Maybe it was because Silvia was unable to understand why the comment section got so active all of a sudden, and so she decided to ask that question hoping that someone would be able to explain things to her in such a way that she would be able to understand. Realizing that Katsu decided to use that as an opportunity to give the viewers some much needed entertainment, he began to explain things to Silvia, as well as the viewers online whilst weaving the commentary of the ongoing battle into his explanation.

「I will try to introduce you to the Sheriff’s overall playstyle as the match goes on, but please bear in mind that it will simply be a crash course and nothing more. For you see, Sheriff is that kind of character that could have been described as the one possessing low firepower, but making it up with sheer effort and potential for making various combination attacks. In the original game the absolute top DPS-wise was the character who used Gatling Gun as his weapon of choice, but here…… You can say that there is a tremendous advantage and payoff in emulating Sheriff’s move set with Dust in particular.」

「And what could those benefits possibly be?」

「It’s all about the variation of bullets that you can use, Eight-san. You see, if there is no need to be afraid of the bullets fired by the NPCs, it’s an entirely different matter if you mix in the bullets that your character can use. And with Dust we talk about two different kinds of bullets. Now you need to be constantly vigilant and watch out for any nasty surprises, lest you want to find yourself being hit with a surprisingly huge amount of damage. It’s that kind of anxiety that will constantly keep on eating away at you.

Even though Silver Mask is Number One player in the entire United States of America, which means that her skills at gaming are really high and second to none, was listening to every single word of this explanation with great interest and concentration, as if she was afraid that she might actually miss some crucial piece of information. And with her level of skill, it would be a given that in time she would be able to perform maneuvers and combos just like that as naturally as she breathed, so maybe that was yet another cause for her listening so intently.

「NPC bullets are nothing that the character should be afraid of. They lack both the penetration power and impact needed to cause the Heroes or Villains any real harm. However, once you mix Dust’s bullet in between those the story changes completely. Damage-wise, Dust is on par with characters such as PsyBorg, but his bullet attacks also pack an extra punch to them. So if you happen to receive them rather poorly, you risk getting yourself set up for some nasty combo that you might actually not be able to get out of that easily.」
