「Even if you swing your stupid parts around without any thought put into it, the damage judgment is still going to pop up……!!

Let’s go! I have a bayonet in one hand! It was made on the spot by absorbing more parts into the blade parts that I already had, and at the current moment it was probably the best way for me to save the bullets that we are going to need for what is yet to come.

「Yeah! If you can defeat the enemies without the need to use bullets, then you can be sure that this is what I am going to do!」

After trampling the small scrap monster attached to the loading platform, piercing the blade held by the left hand between the eyebrows of the totem pole guy who jumped in, the dumpling head is separated from the neck with the right bayonet.

I kick the approaching fat monster and then slash at his left side with my blade. Destroying the leg of the monster who carelessly left itself exposed, I counter by piercing its head with a three-point burst, and then defeating the blade head that came at me right after the fat one fell down. When I was thinking about that, the voice of the NPC, who was probably somewhere out there, driving one of those armored cars that you could hitch a ride on, echoed from the speaker built into the goggles.

「Huh? What did you just say!?」

「I-It bended……!?」

「Whoa there! Hold on just a minute!?」

THUD! And then one of the loading platforms just…… Or rather the AR object that was developed by the hologram technology to resemble a loading platform, started to shake and sway violently. Actually, it may not have been so intense, but my body, which was pierced by that object that should have not really been there, managed to easily lose its posture due to the fatigue that began to fall……

「R-Rakuro-kun!?」

「Whoa! Why! You! Little! Whoa now!?」

Ah, oh shit! That’s actually really dangerous! Noo! I’m going to lose! I’m going to fall! I must endure! Survive at all costs!

「Ah!」

Oh no, this is not good. This is definitely not good. At this rate, things are going to fall apart like a freaking house of cards.

Immediately before I was to fall down to the ground, Rei-san stretched her hand and grabbed my arm, preventing me from falling and pulling my backup on my feet. Thanks to that, I didn’t fall onto my back on the floor, but as a result one of the scrap monsters managed to jump onto Rei-san’s back, but we managed to get rid of the monster right away.

I made a step forward, as if Rei-san was drawing me like a sword, and then I skewered the incoming scrap monster with my newly acquired bayonet and fired away with my pistol. Once the monster starts to fall apart, I take parts away from it, and use them to create some shotgun slugs in a hurry. Then I simply blast away with my shotgun, creating a large hole in the belly of the fat scrap monster.

「Thank you, Rei-san! Thank you so much!」

「Y-Yesh! With pleashure!」

「Whoa there, Rei—san!?」

All of a sudden, Rei-san collapsed onto her knees. I wanted to crouch down and ask her what was wrong, but another fat scrap monster prevented me from doing just that. And the next thing I knew, my vision was dyed red and it seems that I was put into a dying state. What the hell, am I really going to die here!? What was that, two hits……!? No, it was even worse than that! One hit was more than enough assuming it was struck on one of the vital spots!?

「Rei-san, what’s wrong!? Are you feeling alright? Because, you know, if you are starting to feel sick, just go ahead and tell me! We can stop playing right this instant! Your health should always come first!」

「NO! No, no, no, no, no!!! I’m fine! I’m feeling great! There’s nothing wrong with me! I’m in great shape, so we can continue to do this no problem!」

For some strange reason, Rei-san’s face turned so bright red right now that I highly doubt that even if the best PCs from all over the entire world combined their cooling power and started to blow at her, they would still be unable to cool her face down. However, at the same time I get a sense that there was no lie in her words just now. Perhaps it was due to the fact that she saw me defeating those scrap monsters with hand-to-hand combat, that Rei-san’s fighting spirit got rekindled here and she came to the conclusion that we absolutely cannot allow ourselves to lose this. Even she herself started to fight in a much more sophisticated way.

And thus, even though it was safe to say that I was being pushed to the brink of death both resource and placement-wise, I decided to enter the boss battle with a positive mindset, dead-set on doing this thing almost perfectly and flawlessly if push came to shove.

I can hear various NPCs screaming from the speakers surrounding us at every possible angle, and it seems that if the players don’t do something about the boss character, more and more of them are going to die. Not to mention that because of that boss character all of the emergency exits are pretty much blocked and the boss itself already managed to kill some of the other “players” along the way.

「Oh yeah, it’s actually a good thing that we are using those Augmented Reality goggles in the first place……」

The boss monster enemy that stands before us is called “Gadget Fire”, and when it comes to sheer size, it’s about ten meters high or so. However, this sheer size is supposedly not something native to it, but rather a result of it eating other scrap monsters and “players” alike. …… And just as you might expect from a ten meter height, it’s tall. Like, really, REALLY tall.

If you were really trying to reproduce a thing like that with the Augmented Reality technology, it would have been easily way bigger than the ceiling of any of the artificial island’s exhibition halls. That’s without a shred of a doubt. I even tried slide my goggles off for a moment to see how does this thing look like to those who only watch from the sides, but it seems that the only thing the onlookers are able to see are the images created by the AR projectors, which is to say, the legs of the boss monster from its feet all the way to its knees. And that already tells us something.

「Alright, Rei-san! I know it may be a bit of a challenge, but let’s aim at clearing this thing no matter what! And I know we can do this!」

「Yes! Let’s do just that!」
