ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 595: The Banners That We Carry On Are Immortal An Carver In Our Hearts Part 1
Now then, with all that being said and done, let us talk about a certain Guild for a moment. Not about our Guild, though. The Guild that was already out there for quite a while, although never managed to get on everyone’s lips.
The name of this mysterious Guild was supposedly something alongside the likes of “Fossil Miners”. And just as the name of the Guild might suggest, its members were dedicating their time and resources into the solitary activity of digging out and excavating various fossils. Yes, that’s right. No combat. No roleplaying. Only mining, digging and excavating. Nothing more and nothing less.
They would travel to the various locations around the game’s map, enter exploration zones and dungeons like the forests and swamps near Firstea and Secandil, and would simply start digging and mining there, sometimes making various discoveries and sometimes emerging empty-handed from their escapades. Their equipment would usually consist of various excavation-oriented tools such as pickaxes, shovels, brushes, but also torches, camping supplies and weapons if their exploration attempts would lead them into the caves or even deeper underground. Because you never know when and where the monsters are going to strike.
As mentioned above, sometimes their efforts would be for nothing. But sometimes it just so happened that they would find something that was dug in the earth or deep underground. Like their latest finding: something that looked pretty much like an archaic assault spear, although now decayed and severely unusable.
There was also this one time when they happened to excavate a giant skull that probably belonged to some ferocious monster, with a curious little detail that its lower jaw seemed to be missing, having fallen off or being ripped off, most probably the handiwork of some bigger, more dangerous monster.
And for example, one of the most bizarre findings that the fossil miners managed to discover was an ancient fossil of some insect-like monster hidden deep inside of a cave system. Normally there would be nothing all that impressive about that finding, but this fossil was different from all the other fossils. This one miraculously came back to life once it was excavated, carried out of the underground cave system and brought to the surface where its shell came into contact with fresh air.
That fossilized monster was shaped like an oversized “cicada”, and once it managed to fully go back to live it turned out that its level was about level fifty or something like that. As for the miners that encountered the beast at the time, there were about fifteen of them, and the ten of those fifteen possessed the average level of eighty. But even though they were way stronger than the monster they managed to dig up, it took the combined effort of all of the miners to finally slay the beast, and still the miners had to suffer heavy losses on their end for that to happen.
So, what the hell was even that monstrosity? Nobody knows for sure, and the miners who managed to discover the blasted thing in the first place surely weren’t in the mood for talking or trying to remember the horrid experience they were subjected to. But the ones who managed to survive the attack without dying did not even cared about that fact, or the drop items that the monster would leave behind. In fact…… the only thing that they DID care about was the right to be able to name that monster as they saw fit, since they were the ones who discovered it and all that.
Anyways, that brings us to the current subject at hand. That’s how the existence of Undiscovered Monsters was first established. As their name might suggest, they are the kinds of monsters that were still waiting to be named properly, and they are very rare monsters to be encountered in this game. Maybe even rare than Rare Monsters. Because so far not even their types, but the amount of actual Undiscovered Monsters that the players managed to come in contact with was so few that you could count it on the fingers of one hand.
In this game, most monsters are given names by the NPC that constitute this whole game world. However, monsters that are yet to be discovered or are yet to be named are something of a completely unique occurrence. Although that statement is not actually true. Or at the very least, not entirely. Because the NPC once happened to encounter one of such monsters…… a mysterious Pupa-like creature that was able to transform into completely different adult forms, depending on the environment that the Pupa happened to be exposed to.
And then the respawned players managed to return and bring the news with them. They did some consulting and managed to come to the agreement that their very first order of business would be to name the newly discovered monster. As for the name that the have chosen for that monstrous Pupa……
–––––– Unfortunately we do not last forever. All it takes for us to be out of here is a little something. Something that goes horribly wrong. Either be it a catastrophe, an accident, or an intentional action of the third party of some sort. That’s just the way it is. The only thing that can be preserved forever are the memories.
However, I want everyone else in this game to know that there was once a group of brave people who gathered together and managed to discover and then beat that thing. I want people to know about that fact until the service known as this game officially comes to an end. So I guess that it would be like wishing for something to last until the end of the world, huh?
That is exactly why this monster’s existence was never even revealed to the members of the “Library”, and continued to sleep deep underground, undisturbed by no one. That is, until today. Until the next unsuspecting persona managed to unearth it, with as much astonishment as you could possibly think of.
The group that first discovered that monster was named Fossil Miners, the plural form of Fossil Miner.
So it was only appropriate that this monster right here…… Should be named none other than “Fossil Digger”.

「UNPRECEDENTED MONSTER DISCOVERY! DISCOVERY EXTRAORDINARY!!!」
「NEW SUBJOGATION TARGET DISCOVERED: FOSSIL MINERS’ CHRYSALIS: WALL ORPHAN”.」
「BEGINNING THE COMBAT WITH THE EXTRAORDINARY MONSTER.」
And what do we even have here!? Is this perhaps the content of the newest update rushing straight into my arms completely out of the blue!?
「Kuh…… Everyone, spread out!」
「PIIIIIIH!!!???」
Yeah, way to go to open up a fight with a new type of monster! Running away like a little bitch and screaming at the top of your lungs! Way to fucking go! …… But still, it’s not like I can blame any NPC for reacting that way in this particular situation. Anyways, if I were to somehow explain our current situation, this thing is pretty much like a dumpster truck flying around at full speed with this extremely enclosed space!
