CHAPTER 226: VISITING THE LAND OF DRAGONS
“Hey Fulgy, why are you so quiet? Is introducing me to Elder Dragons so nerve-wrecking?”
Right now I was flying on Fulgy. Usually he is much more talkative, but right now he barely answered any of my questions.
“Nah, it is like a loud family meeting.”
And that is it, nothing more was said. I wish he would explain what’s wrong with him. I keep trying to guess what’s bothering him but I can’t pinpoint it. It was not meeting Triton, being in Viliks or even meeting the Elders.
“Fine, whatever, stay silent and don’t talk then. It’s not like there isn’t anything else to do.”
Silence… Aaagh he’s so annoying. I give up. I might as well take a nap while we are flying. Let’s hope it is not too far away. I hugged Fulgy’s neck and closed my eyes. I knew that I wouldn’t fall down, he will not allow it.
(…)
I opened my eyes and was confused with my surroundings. The sun was halfway down and I was being carried piggy-back style through a valley.
“Sorry, did I wake you up? We’re almost there.”
“It’s fine, I didn’t think I would actually fall asleep.”
I slid down his back and continued to walk by his side. I didn’t feel like there was a goal anywhere near. I couldn’t see anything that would tell me ‘Dragons Residing Up Ahead’. It was just normal scenery around me.
I kept stealing glances at Fulgy who seemed to be anything but relaxed. There was no lazy vibe that he usually has around him, but on the other hand he didn’t seem as nervous as before. If I had to take a guess he looked excited a bit and very proud as if he was gloating about something.
“My bride, before we enter I need you to promise me that you will not back away no matter what happens. This is all formality, but I cannot predict everything that those old geezers may do. Also do not lie, that is the most important thing to remember.”
That is odd, well I guess I have no choice. He said not to lie for a reason, so I will make sure to do that.
“Okay, I promise.”
As I said that, he took my hand and I could immediately feel the familiar sensation of being pulled. I knew it so well because that same feeling is what prevented me from leaving Orzak for so long. In a blink of an eye I was standing in an unfamiliar location surrounded by countless other dragons of all sizes and colors.
This is not the first time that I came face to face with dragons, but I was still shaken by the sheer quantity of them. With just a glance I could tell there were over a hundred of them here. And that is not counting those in their human forms.
Fulgy led me through the crowd until we entered what seemed like a giant cave, but it wasn’t dark as one would expect it to be. Instead the walls were covered with numerous glowing crystals. It felt to me like I was walking among the stars.
“This is beautiful, what is this place exactly?”
“This is the tomb of the Dragon God. We call it like that, but he never really died. He ascended into godhood, but the dragons built it in his honor and it is considered a sacred place of dragons. Elder Dragons reside in this place. The crystals became like this because of great mana pressure over the course of many, many years.”
That’s amazing. I wonder if I could do something to recreate them artificially. Something like how fake diamonds are made. I could probably make a fortune that way. Imagine how much I could make off of nobility alone. Hmm, if I start doing jewelry business out of stained glass I could probably make a killing. I didn’t see a lot of such products on the market.
“Umm, I forgot to ask this earlier, but do I have to make some formal greeting once I am before those elders? What should I do once I meet them?”
I realized that I had no idea what manners I should have before dragons. I treat Fulgy like he is a human more or less, but I have no idea if it would be considered rude. For some reason I became nervous.
“Not really, just treat them as elders. But it would be best not to speak unless spoken to. Just let me do most of the talking, you’ll be fine so just relax.”
“If you say so.”
I could see an open area in front of me. I guess that was our destination. I really had no idea what to expect. These are supposed to be the rulers of dragons, majestic and honorable so there is no way I could imagine a loud family meeting that Fulgy mentioned earlier. Those things aren’t supposed to be majestic.
As soon as we entered the wide area of the cavern I noticed a huge stone statue of a dragon. It took up more than half the space in this cavern. If I am correct it should be representing the Dragon God. At the foot of the statue a dozen dragons stood looking towards the two of us. They barely reached the belly of the stone statue which speaks as to how grand this statue was. Standing before all of them I truly felt small and insignificant.
“Hah, little Fulgy wasn’t joking. He really did bring a bride. Pay up everyone, this old man is rich now.”
“Tsk, fine, I’ll pay you later.”
“I was sure he was just fooling with us earlier. Who’d thought he was telling the truth, this sucks.”
What the heck? Are they really the rulers of all dragons? They acted nothing like it. I guess this is the reason why Fulgy described it as a family meeting.
