CHAPTER 290: BIG BROTHER
There was silence. Sai was completely unresponsive to any further communication. I tried calling out to him several times, but he didn’t show any sign or willingness to respond to me. I sighed and put the earring aside and went to sleep. I only slept for an hour when I heard two loud thuds.
I was immediately alert. I checked the map and took out both Sapphire and Amethyst preparing to rush out and fight the intruder. But before I could do that, an unfamiliar walked into my room after blasting the door into smithereens.
From beyond the door I could see two guards lying in a pool of blood, their eyes devoid of all life. I didn’t bother trying to heal them because I saw they were already beyond help. Whatever this person did, I can’t undo it on my own.
The man had dark brown hair and chocolate colored eyes. His skin was ashen and pale, like he hadn’t seen sunlight in a long time. He had a kind face that almost seemed boyish especially with the small amount of baby fat that wasn’t lost. With a smirk on his face, he carried the air of mischievousness around him.
Yet despite such a cute appearance, my senses were screaming that I was in grave danger. My knees were barely able to support me and it took my entire willpower to stop them from giving out and keep a grip on my weapons.
“Your beloved must truly believe in your strength to only leave such small flies acting as your guards. I didn’t even have to lift my hands and they were already dead.”
Even his voice sounded young, like he didn’t go through puberty. But it was obvious that he was looking down on both the guards Vitou sent to protect me and my own strength.
“He believes that I will come out alive, no matter what the circumstances are.”
“He’s not wrong there, but isn’t this a rude way to greet your eldest brother? I feel rather unwelcome in your own house. You didn’t even bother offering me a drink. I came a long way to visit my only sister.”
When I heard him say ‘eldest brother’, my mind went blank and it took me a while to process what those words really meant.
“You…you… you’re the Black King?”
“Bingo! It seems that the smallest taught you well. How about offering me some tea? You must be a good host, especially since you are about to get into the Royal Family. I can’t have others saying our family is uncultured.”
I weighed out my chances and put away the swords. I couldn’t beat the Archduke and I sure as heck wouldn’t be able to beat the Black King. However, I didn’t bother offering him any tea or snacks.
“To what do I owe this pleasure? I didn’t think I would be able to meet you so soon.”
“I won’t beat around the bush and will get straight to the point. I came here to offer you a deal. I know you have been running around with the small one, but considering that you are my only sister, I figured I should tell you a thing or two before it is too late.”
He had a smirk as he was saying that which didn’t help me believe that he really wanted to tell me anything good. Still, I listen, but I was actually thinking about how I should escape from this man.
“Then tell me about it. I am all ears.”
“It is about Thanatos-sama, our dear ‘adoptive’ father. You should know, but he is nothing great and majestic. You were ‘chosen’ by him and given great power, but that is all false. He never told you about the real power that you can wield. I want to show you what a real Child of Death can do.”
Is he serious? The only time I can think of Thanatos-sama as majestic is when I am thinking about his face. But what is with that attitude towards him? It is like a child that only now found out his parents weren’t omnipotent.
“How can that be?!”
I acted shocked with his statement. I must act according to his expectations if I am to leave here unscathed.
“You don’t believe it? Then I will show you. On the day of your wedding to Vitou, I want you to do something. If you want to join me and become a truly powerful god, all you have to do is say no when the time comes. Vitou is not suitable to be with you. At that time, I will have others bring you out and nobody would be able to stop me. Not even the small on.”
What the heck? Why is everyone concerned about my wedding day? Can’t they move their schedule and just let me do things in peace. That is supposed to be MY big day. I don’t want others stealing my spotlight.
“Why isn’t Vitou suitable?”
“He’s unworthy and untamed. I have other plans for him. You don’t need to know them. Now, what do you say? Are you interested in this offer? This is the only way to become a truly strong existence.”
“I really don’t know, you see…”
Before he could get the answer out of me, the entire room aside from me disappeared and I took out a small firework from my inventory and launched it into the air. This is what the Archduke gave me to use in case of an emergency.
Right now, I figured that my best option was to use space magic to move the Black King along with the entire room so that he would not be able to stop my transfer. I thought that it would be easier to realize I was transferring myself than the entire building. Sadly, it only gave me a few seconds of time as the building was launched high up into the sky.
A loud explosion alarmed everyone in Kapitalia as the room came crashing down. Within seconds my loyal subordinate came armed to the teeth ready for a fight, but there wasn’t anyone around me, The only thing left was creepy laughter that grew distant until it disappeared.
