【3rd person’s POV】

Some time before Sam casted his ‘Swath of the Death God’.

Sherry, a Hero and a part of the group of students summoned from another world to battle against the threat posed by the Demon King, was watching the match from a special room prepared exclusively for her.

She was doing so at the behest of the Third Princess; she wanted Sherry to gauge the power of the Adventurer Samael.

Accompanied by Lantz, she kept looking at the screen. So far, the results shown by Samael were greater than her expectations. He was completely overwhelming Michael, though the latter was holding back.

Is it possible that he’s as strong as Michael? She thought.

A change occurred in the stalemate as Michael decided to use a skill taught to him by Lantz. His sword turned into a large lightsaber and he raised it overhead to bring it down on Samael.

How will you defend against that, Samael? She smiled.

However, his next actions were a bit unexpected. He dashed from his place and landed a kick on Michael’s solar plexus, thus sending him flying. In a matter of seconds, Samael saw through the weakness of Michael’s skill and instantly acted on it.

What happened next was even more unexpected. They started talking. Actually, it seemed that Samael was provoking Michael. Before she could make any sense of what they were doing, Michael jumped to the edge of the stage.

“W-Wait! That posture is!” Lantz’s eyes widened and his eyebrows twitched. “That idiot!”

And with that, he made a beeline for the door of the room.

“W-what happened, Sir Lantz?!”

Of course, Lantz was already gone by the time she let out that question, and thus she was left alone in the room. However, Lantz’s last sentence left her uneasy, so she decided to follow him, and thus exited the room after him.

His presence……. He’s heading towards the Princess’ room. And so she followed him.

With unease growing in her heart, she made her way towards the VIP room. However, she was a bit lacking in the brawns department, so it would take some time before she could reach her destination.

Just then, a shockwave of mana hit her. Of course, due to her superior mana defences, it didn’t affect her in the slightest.

Just what the heck are you doing, Michael?! Cursing in her heart, she finally reached the VIP room.

“-and I’m telling you to stop this match right now! The barrier won’t hold if that nutjob uses ‘Heaven’s Wrath’ here!”

What? That was the first time she was hearing about this skill. From the balcony, she could see that a really large sword had appeared in the air, and since Michael was not on the stage, it only made sense that he was up in the air, along with that sword.

She looked at Samael then, and he seemed to be in a daze. No, he seemed to be thinking something. After letting out a sigh, he started an incantation.

“I stand above everything. There is nothing I cannot subdue. There is nothing I cannot destroy. Every existence dies before me. Every phenomenon ends before me. For I am the only Lord.”

A huge amount of mana started gathering around him, twisting and lashing out in ways she had never seen before. A magic circle appeared above Samael, followed by a smaller one, and so on until 6 circles had appeared.

The nonsensically large amount of mana was being channelled into the circles through Samael.

“This goddamned idiot-”

A shiver ran down her spine, and before she could think, she had already turned to Lantz and Cecile and shouted.

“STOP HIM! DO NOT LET HIM COMPLETE THAT SPELL!”

But they were a bit late.

Michael swung his hands down and sent the sword towards Samael. The latter also finished his spell.

“Hargreave Style: Swath of the Death God.”

The moment he muttered that, the magic circles glowed fiercely in their rainbow coloured hue, and fired a ridiculously powerful laser beam towards the sky. That laser beam having a radius of around 10 metres was faster than the speed of sound. The shockwave it produced sent Sherry flying into the room.

The laser clashed with the sword up in the skies and overwhelmed it effortlessly. A large explosion was produced, but even that was swallowed by the laser. It went on till the end of the horizon, and then vanished, leaving a sky devoid of any clouds.

Michael, panting heavily and trying to stop the bleeding from his various wounds caused by the explosion, was utterly speechless. His strongest skill, ‘Heaven’s Wrath’, was beaten so easily that his mind was still trying to process what the fuck just happened. He did think that Samael was capable, but not that capable.

After making up his mind, he finally descended to the stage.

【Sam’s POV】

Whew. That was refreshing.

Though it seems that I wasn’t able to hold back enough, as evident by the crater formed around me due to the initial shockwave released by my spell. Well, thankfully, the barrier remained intact and no one was hurt.

“W-w-w-w-w-w-w-w-what the heck was THAAAAAAAATTTTTTTTTTTTT?! Samael just fired an absurdly powerful beam at Arthur and demolished his attack and the stage. The shockwaves from that attack reached beyond the barrier! Just how strong is he?!”

Well, as it turns out, the barrier wasn’t as powerful as I was making it out to be. A direct hit from Michael’s skill and the spectators here would have died horrible deaths. Good thing I settled it in the sky.

As I was thinking that, Michael descended from the sky. The moment he touched the ground, his wings vanished and his hair returned to their former colour, and he fell down on his knees as if he was a marionette whose strings had been abruptly cut.

“Now, Michael.” I made my way towards him. “Ready to give up?”

“……Yeah.” He replied with a hoarse voice, raised his hand, and shouted. “I give up!”

It seemed that doing that consumed all of his energy, as he fell down and lost consciousness.

“Arthur has given up! The winner of the Contest of Champions is SAA-MAA-EELLLLL!”

“WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

“Sherry Liebert, a Hero and a healer. Pleased to make your acquaintance.”

Ah, there she is; Doctor Sherry.

The aftermath of my match with Michael. After declaring me as the winner, the Third Princess awarded me a trophy and spoke of a special reward that would be declared to the masses later. And now, we were in the infirmary, where I met Sherry.

Now, time to employ my superb acting skills.

“Samael, a normal traveller.”

She peeked behind me at the destroyed stage through the window, then around her at the room, then up at the parted clouds, and then looked at me again.

“Yes, you’re really normal.”

“Your understanding delights me to no end.”

“My pleasure. Now, since this place doesn’t really suit the talk we are about to have, shall we change places?”

“With pleasure, Ms. Liebert.”

She started walking ahead of me with that, and I and Michael followed her, to the VIP room where Cecile was waiting for us. As we entered the room, however, she was holding her temple as if trying to hold back an incoming headache.

“I’ve brought them, Princess.”

“Ah, Sherry.” She looked up. “Thank you. Everyone.” She clapped. “Could you please leave us alone for a moment?”

The maids and soldiers nodded- the nobles had left a long time ago- and went outside the room, leaving only me, Sherry, Cecile, Michael and Lantz.

“Would you care for some tea, Mr. Samael?”

“You know what?” I started off in a serious tone. “This time, I’d love to.”

Cecile gracefully poured out tea in a teacup and handed it to me. Taking in its peculiar grassy aroma, I took a sip.

“Mmm, exquisite.”

“You seem well acquainted with the ways of us nobles, Mr. Samael.”

“A man must be prepared for anything and everything. Isn’t that right, Michael?”

“Huh? Y-Yeah…..”

His voice trailed off in the end. I guess he was still hung up over his loss.

“Now now.” I patted him on the back, to which he groaned. “Don’t dwell on it too much. You lost only because you were against me.”

“Hoooh…..” Came Sherry’s response. “You seem to be quite confident in your powers, Mr. Samael.”

“Well, seeing your match today, it’s not like I can’t see where you are coming from.”

Lantz added.

“Good grief. First of all, let’s put aside the manners; I’m not too fond of them, you see. Let’s discuss what we are here for.”

“Before that.” Cecile stopped me. “We need the information you promised us.”

“Ah, that talk about Dark Hero and Regina?”

Cecile nodded, while Michael flinched upon hearing Dark Hero.

“All right then.” I took another sip. “Regina Zi Maxwell. She’s the younger sister of Solomon and a direct subordinate of their Demon God. So, yeah, she’s as strong as him. In other words, she alone can show you guys hell.”

“Solomon’s sister, you say?” Cecile frowned. “Then how come we’ve never heard of her before?”

“Because till now, there was no need for her to step forward.”

“Then why would she come out now?”

“Because I have joined your side.”
