CHAPTER 51 PART 2

Gilet dropped to his knees in front of Edgar and bowed his head in a gesture of apology.

It was the kind of motion that would make people think that he was about to pledge his allegiance to the King himself or someone like that.

Seeing that seemed to make Edgar feel somewhat better, for he just nodded his head and showed Gilet to sit in the chair for the time being.

「Well then, you do know why I called you here today, don’t you?」

Gilet sat down in the chair and as soon as he did that, Edgar opened his mouth and cut straight to the chase.

Again, with his head bowed lightly, Gilet replied.

「Yes, Edgar-sama. It’s about that little incident in the town’s square this morning, isn’t it?」

「As always, if anyone tries to file a damage report or any claims against me, or anything else for that matter, you are to dispose of it appropriately.」

「Yes, sir!」

Even though he was asked to do something completely outrageous and standing in direct opposition to the law, Gilet, who was supposed to be the Knight Commander, nodded his head without hesitation.

That seemed to make him feel even better, and Edgar handed the leather bag to Gilet with a smile on his face.

「Here, the usual amount for the usual work.」

「Thank you very much for your kindness, sir.」

「Ten gold pieces. Would you like to check?」

「That won’t be necessary, sir. I’m not going to question or doubt you now.」

「Good answer. Can you keep up the good work, then?」

「Of course, sir.」

Gilet repeatedly bowed his head in respect to Edgar.

Normally, a knight would give allegiance to only one person, the King who ruled the country.

And yet, the man named Gilet was clearly submitting himself to Edgar.

It was a very distorted relationship that the two of them seemed to have.

It was a scene that symbolized the darker side of this city as a whole.

「Well then, I shall take care of the clean-up actions right away, sir.」

「Oh, wait a moment.」

As Gilet stood up and was about to leave the room, Edgar stopped him.

Edgar threw an additional leather bag to Gilet, who turned around with a puzzled look on his face.

「Five gold coins.」

「And this is for……?」

「I have an additional task for you.」

「What would that be?」

「I want you to find out as much as you can about a man named Rein. Perhaps he is not an old-time resident of the city. He’s either a traveler or a recent arrival in town. I want to know what you know about him. If you can, bring him to me personally.」

「As you wish, sir.」

Why? Or, what for? None of those questions were asked here.

It was the Lord’s…… It was Edgar’s order, so Gilet was just going to do it, without asking any questions.

If he did, he would surely receive something quite the opposite of a payment for it.

「I’m counting on you.」
「Yes, sir! I won’t let you down, sir!」

Gilet then left, leaving Edgar alone once more.

「There is no one in this city that can resist me there must not ever be someone like that…… And if they are, then I am going to teach them where their place is.」

I am the only son of the Lord of this city.

This means that I am actually the second in command in this entire city, the second person with the greatest level of authority.

The people will not be allowed to disobey me, no matter who they are.

Whatever my orders might be, they must obey them and never rebel or refuse.

That is the duty of the people of this city. They cannot go against the ones who rule over them.

Those fools who don’t understand that simple truth must be brought to justice right away and made a clear example of.

Edgar then clenched his fists and fantasized about the time that was surely to come sooner rather than later.

「Kukuku……!」

He smiled under his nose in a really nasty way.

Just how unsightly is that cocky little shit going to be begging for his life?

What kind of miserable expression will he show him?

Just imagining that moment filled Edgar with an irresistible sense of pleasure and ecstasy.

「Fumuh.」

Just now, Imagining what he was going to do to the man who insulted and humiliated him so much has made Edgar feel better, even if it was only a little bit. But it was always something.

However, he hasn’t completely calmed down yet.

The humiliation he happened to receive in the town’s square this morning hurt Edgar’s pride so hard and so deep that it basically managed to lodge itself inside of a remote corner of his mind and just refused to get out of there, no matter what.

Just fantasizing about things was not going to be enough.

He needed to get himself rid of this nagging feeling. He needed something that would allow him to distract himself from it.

And just for moments like this one…… Edgar had the perfect toy that would serve as an outlet for his frustrations.

Edgar then rang the bell sitting on top of his desk.

「…… P-Please…… excuse me……」

A few moments later, the door to his room opened once more.

This time around, a young girl appeared in the entrance.

In appearance only, you could say that she was still but a child.

She had a dainty appearance that seemed to be saying that in the future she would grow up to be a truly lustrous beauty.

But it wasn’t just her looks alone, but there were other elements that were immediately eye-catching about her.

She had animal-like ears growing out of her head and a tail sticking out from her lower back.

The girl then timidly called out to Edgar.

「Ahh, umm…… W-What is it……? D-Did you need anything……?」

「You’re late!」

「Hyah!?」

Edgar threw the glass chalice that was standing atop of his desk, and it flew across the room, shattering on the wall right next to the girl’s face.

The sound of the glass breaking caused the girl to shriek and squirm on the spot.

「Didn’t I order you to come here as soon as I rang the bell? So why the hell were you so late just now!?」

「H-Huh…… B-But I…… I…… came here as soon as……」

「Don’t you dare to talk back to me!」

「Uwah!」

Edgar slapped the girl across the face with the back of his hand, not even bothering to hold himself back.

Unable to resist the force of the slap, the girl fell to the floor instantly.

「You stupid little shit…… It looks like I’m going to have to discipline you thoroughly again!」

「Ugh…….」

Edgar smiled in a grim and nasty way.

The girl, in contrast, had the look of utter resignation in her eyes.

This was always the case with the way in which she was treated here.

She just kept on getting beaten up for no reason at all……

No matter how many times she would apologize for her various “faults” and “transgressions”, there was no way that she would be forgiven and the beatings would stop.

It was a normal, everyday occurrence for this poor girl.

How much longer would this situation go on?

How many more times must the girl despair like that?

The answer for both of those questions was…… that the girl herself didn’t know.
