【Sam’s POV】

And finally, it was my turn to get my weapon. I stepped into the magic circle drawn on the ground, and as everyone had done earlier, I proceeded to step in its innermost circle.

Now then, this magic circle usually selects a weapon you are worthy of. I dunno how it does that, but it’s an incredible, yet simultaneously useless feature if you think about it. Because, it gives you the weapon you are worthy of, and not the weapon that you want or need. So, if you are a Hero fighting in a SS class world, and you are in desperate need of a God class weapon, this magic circle would give you a D class if it thinks that that’s all you are worthy of. Truly a messed-up system.

Anyway, what weapon would I be worthy of, I wonder? Of course, the answer to that question was determined from the very beginning.

According to Phiria, the weapon that we would get is the one selected by the System. That means the System assesses us. But what exactly does it assess? Merit? Intellect? Karma? Strength? Appearance? Lineage? Fitness? Perhaps all of them.

Then how would that System assess me?

Probably as a monster.

But as much as I would’ve liked to know the answer to my question, I won’t be able to, at least not now.

So far, whenever anyone stepped inside the magic circle, it glowed in a colour. It’s still unclear how that colour is determined. For all we know, it might have been picked randomly. Anyway, after reaching the innermost circle, a strong wind blows, and then a weapon appears from the circle.

And so far, everyone has managed to get a God class weapon. If the System thinks they are worthy of that, then they truly are; there’s no doubt about that.

Earlier, they were accusing me that I would get something unprecedented, like getting the strongest God class weapon. My reply had been that something like that would never happen, and that was technically the truth.

Anyway, even though I stepped in the innermost circle, nothing that had happened earlier happened. The circle did not glow, nor was I engulfed in gales. In fact, even the gentle breeze had stopped blowing. Instead-

The warmth from the sun above suddenly vanished. As evident by the changing scenery around me, dark clouds had appeared out of nowhere and hid the sun. The next moment, fierce gales started blowing, growing stronger with each passing moment. Lightning crackled and thunder ensued. However, the lightning was black- no, a shade purer than pure black. The lightning continued to get intense, and it started striking the ground. The winds grew even stronger.

“W-What is this?!”

Someone behind me exclaimed, but right now I couldn’t care less about that.

Soon enough, black tornadoes descended from those clouds and started rending the ground. The entire landscape changed.

The dark storm that threatened to blow each and every one of us continued to grow stronger and fiercer, wreaking havoc in the process.

Amidst all that, a really large flash of black lightning headed towards me. The lightning held enough power to destroy anything in its path.

In response, I brought my right hand forward. The lightning struck there, but strangely enough, I wasn’t hurt. I didn’t feel anything as the lightning finished its job.

No, that would be wrong. After all, the weight I was feeling in my hand and the exhilaration I was feeling in my heart were there. It was pure, unadulterated, manic delight.

And why wouldn’t I feel that? After all, I was finally reunited with my long-lost partner.

“T-That cursed weapon?!”

“Tzeeneth…..”

And there it was. Resting in my right hand as if it were the most natural thing to do was an interlocking double blade. Each of the double-edged blades was around a metre long, while the hilt spanned over 25 cm. The 2.25-metre-long weapon carved out of pure darkness was resting in my hand, resting in the hand of its partner.

Tzeeneth sent some darkness in my body, perhaps as a way to confirm that it really was me. And of course, I accepted it. The darkness born from pure evil which could drive even the Gods insane settled in my consciousness as easily as a salaryman returning home after a long tiring day at work.

Just then, my vision was cut off and my consciousness was sent into the depths of Tzeeneth. Darkness surrounded me, and in front of me was a pair of large devilish eyes glowing with a violet hue. Those fearsome eyes which could make anyone feel dread, flickered a bit. I extended my hand towards them, and surprisingly enough, I felt a sense of touch.

Caressing it with my hands as if I was petting a spoiled cat, I announced that it was indeed me, Samuel Hayden. In return, the pair of eyes squinted in pleasure, and thus our bond was reaffirmed.

My consciousness was sent back, and there I was, standing at that place once again. The turmoil from before had vanished, the rent ground below me the only proof that it ever existed. But Tzeeneth still remained in my hand.

“Hmmm…. you’ve been quite naughty without me, haven’t you?”

Tzeeneth’s figure flickered, admonishing me that I was the one at fault for leaving it alone.

“Alright alright, I’ll admit it was my fault. But don’t worry, we’ll stay together from now on.”

Upon hearing my words, its figure danced in joy.

But as I was relishing in the pleasure of holding Tzeeneth-

“BOOOOM!”

A large explosion resounded behind me. I turned around and saw that the door which connected this place to God’s Realm had been blasted to smithereens.

As expected, they were here. Four presences surrounded and hovered in the air at such a height that their feet could touch my hair. Glaring down on me, those imposing presences were a bit nostalgic.

A pair of large white wings adorned each of their backs, proof that they were the commanders of Heaven.

Good grief, I wasn’t expecting the Archangels to respond so quickly. Not to mention 4 of the 6 Archangels made their appearance at once. I guess they realised the importance of Tzeeneth choosing a wielder.

The haughtiest looking of them, an angel with a large build, blonde hair and bright green eyes- further proof that he was an Archangel- stepped forward and released his overwhelming aura to intimidate me.

Hmm, if I remember correctly, he was named Severus, right?

But of course, such an act pissed off Tzeeneth; there’s no way in hell it would allow the filth of Heaven to look down on it. So, it released its own dark aura and bloodlust to combat the one released by the Archangel, and boy, Tzeeneth was winning. Tzeeneth’s evil bloodlust was so overwhelming that all the Archangels flinched and involuntarily stepped back. The best course of action to take in the current situation.

Given how fast they reacted to my acquiring Tzeeneth, and that 4 Archangels reacted simultaneously, this might not be the first time they’ve had to do this. In other words, Tzeeneth has chosen a wielder before and created trouble through it. But the fact that it’s still in my hands means either means that none of them were suitable for it, or that it was just relieving stress.

Anyway, time to employ my superb acting skills.

“W-what the heck is the deal with this weapon?!”

At my sudden outburst, even Tzeeneth flinched in shock, as if cursing ‘Et tu Brute!’. But soon enough, it understood my true intention.

They mustn’t know that I’m the true wielder of Tzeeneth.

And so, acting according to its perceived personality, it exuded as dark aura and spread it over my arm. The aura turned into a sticky liquid like substance, sticking to my arm and trying to spread over to my whole body. It felt kinda ticklish.

“A-AAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH!”

But I was forced to act if I was in incredible pain, and let out a blood-curdling scream.

“Shit! It’s trying to eat him!”

The one known as Severus grumbled and stepped forward, intending to seize Tzeeneth from my hands to separate it.

Hmm, seems like he’s not as intelligent as he seems.

In response to that action, Tzeeneth whipped out tentacle like protrusions from itself and started waving them around to keep the Archangels away, and as expected, this strategy worked. They knew that they wouldn’t escape unscathed if hit by those tentacles. As for me, I continued to act the part of a helpless victim eaten by a weapon.

“Arrgh! Gaah! Uraahou!”

I’m running out of screams though……

“Step aside.”

But before the Archangels could make any reckless move in desperation, Phiria stepped forward and stopped them.

“L-Lady Phiria! Don’t approach, this is our job!”

Severus argued, but Phiria was having none of it.

“Step aside.”

She repeated her order, and this time the Archangels meekly obeyed her. With eyes full of determination, Phiria then approached me. As she neared us, a white transparent dome surrounded, which somehow managed to repel Tzeeneth’s tentacles.

After reaching a distance where she could touch me, she stretched her arm forward and……

“Aaah-eh…”

Even I forgot to scream as she gently stroked Tzeeneth. What surprised me even more was that none of the Archangels were flabbergasted by her ability to do so.

“There there. Calm down, Tzeeneth-chan.”

She said softly. And Tzeeneth unexpectedly ceased its violent onslaught and returned to being a weapon. Seeing this as a chance, Severus tried to move to snatch it from my hand, but Tzeeneth acted faster. The darkness making up its figure started compressing until it formed a small sphere. The sphere jumped from my palm and rested on the back of my hand, before being absorbed in it. After it completely assimilated in my hand, a symbol made of concentric circles enclosing three shapes appeared on my hand.

It was Tzeeneth’s way of announcing that I was worthy to be its wielder.

Phiria looked at me once, and taking her cue, I made a show of fainting due to exhaustion. Fortunately, Phiria caught and cradled me in a princess carry. Before anyone could say anything, she ordered.

“Severus, I’ll leave everyone here to you; take them to God’s Realm with you. We’ll be joining you shortly.”

“Wait-”

And with that, we vanished from that place.
