ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 423: Task Force Outsider Part 2
The weather in ShanFlo changes with the passage of time, which goes almost in the same manner as the time in the real world. It’s not exactly the same weather as in real life, but the amount of details can be really huge and scary-realistic sometimes. For example, when it starts to rain.
The current time in the real world is 6:30 p.m. The Sigmania Frontline Valley is dyed in the bright vermilion of twilight, and for a single moment the whole area is silent and tranquil, as if everyone were admiring the view. And then a commanding voice shook across the entire area.
「Sigma!」
「Affirmative: beginning the demonstration protocol now.」
Even though Sigma has a booster strapped onto her, apparently without the components from Tactical War Beasts being equipped onto her, her ability to fly if fairly limited. More than flaying, it looks like jumping really high or simply bouncing. But still, Sigma was able to jump in the air for about ten meters or so, which was already pretty amazing. She then took out the twin pistols she was holding in her hands, aimed them towards the ground…… and then fired without a moment of hesitation.
「Wimp! For now don’t force yourself to defeat it! Just focus on getting a hang of things!」
「I was about to do just that even without you telling me to do so!」
Alright, with that being said and done…… Unfortunately, I do not have a signal pistol on me, so you will have to forgive me for signaling the beginning of the war with a regular pistol shot like that.
With that being done, looking down below you can see that the Centipedes started to emerge from below the ground, as well as there were spiders popping up one after another from literally everywhere you look. Needless to say, Faultless Gargantua was bound to be somewhere out there as well. However, I strongly doubt that this kind of vibration would be enough to wake IT up…… Which means we needed to step up our game a little bit.
The cracks running on the ground grow in number until they reach a point I would consider to be critical, crushing the ground and revealing the super-heavy crustacean from below, emerging to the ground level while shaking off the excess soil.
Indeed, this monster is exactly like the Centipedes, meaning that its name heavily reflects in its appearance. When you think of a railroad-scale giant, it reminds me to some extent of the Arctus Regalex, but that monster was long and really thin. This beast, however, was huge and wide to boot.
Seeing that monster moving slowly towards the Centipedes while its shell was cracking and rubbing against one another, I shifted my attention elsewhere, looking for a place where the ground was about to start swelling up once more.
「AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH! NOOOOOOOOO!!! It’s coming!!! It’s coming this way!!!」
Yes, we know, now shut the fuck up for a moment out there, will you…… Right there!
「Alright! Commencing the operation! Sigma! Emul! Stay the hell out of this!」
「Roger that!」
「Understood!」
If a dragon descend from the heavens, it is only natural that a tiger is bound to show up shortly after that. And wouldn’t you know, now I also confirmed that a huge spider appeared by breaking the ground! Could it be that those pheromones were at work here? It would certainly look that way to me. But anyways, time to get to work.
「I-Is it looking this way……!? F-Fufufufufu…… No, don’t come an closer……!?」
I would think that it would be at this moment that Wimp would be in the biggest danger and would risk being blow away, but Sammy-chan was still remaining in stealth mode, which must mean that for now there was no threat to her.
Crawling up on its hind legs and reaching up like a pillar, the Centipede starts to run forward, kicking every small spider in its way to the sides. I could use Critical Speed here to dodge, but I wanted to leave that for some surprise attacks and retreat if there would be a need for it.
Armillet Gargantua, the monster the size of a human being, has a certain amount of strength to it. SO it’s HP should be fine, and tackling it to the side like that should not cause it to go off. Or so I was hoping.
Before I even noticed, I was already climbing my way up the Faultless Gargantua’s belly. Grabbing the Aradval Rebuild and slashing away at the smaller spiders that were trying to get in my way. The last thing I want here right now is some small shit trying to pull a sneak attack on me or to blow itself up right in my face.
The spider that was torn off by the flame flash rolls to its back, falling to the ground and crashing flashily.
「How about that!? A cannot that is not loaded is just a useless junk of metal, right!?」
Now, the centipedes can also contribute to our own firepower here. In a sense, it will be like playing a role of a craftsman who goes behind the enemy lines to make some sabotage or to steal the enemy’s ammo for ourselves.
「Caution: Confirming the swelling and contracting in the muscle fibers of Treinol Sentiped Gustav. Here it comes!」
「Roger that!」
A huge centipede lets out the air shattering roar as it wraps itself around the overgrown spider. The thick shells of each other squeak and scream as if they were ready to pop any moment now, and the spiders step on their legs as if to oppose the tightening Centipede. Also, some other spiders launch themselves at the Centipede from the distance, a kind of attack that I would not be able to perform on my own.
「“MAGIC EDGE!!”」
「Start shooting Action: Shot Down!」
However, at the same time an attack was also fired from above the monster’s belly, shooting down some of the Armillets, and a reduced number of perforated barrages hit the Centipede as well, spreading the impact and exploding.
For us it was practically nothing, but a self-destruct attack like that certainly has the potential to blow away players who are of level one hundred and below that with nothing but a single hit…… That being said, getting caught in something like that is something I would really like to avoid if I can help it. Better safe than sorry.
Needless to say, the grip the Centipede had on the Faultless Gargantua loosens, and there was no way that the spider would miss an opportunity like that. …… Before anyone could react, its legs straightened and looked like javelins or pikes, piercing the shell on the Centipede’s back with a loud a terribly-sounding crunch.
「Everyone, get away, now!!」
「Hey! Puppet Person! Puppet Person!」
「Irritation: I keep on telling you! My name is Sigma! Be sure to remember that! It’s not really all that hard! Now, engaging evasive maneuvers.」
「HOBYAAAAAAHHHHHH!?」
While seeing off Emul and Sigma, I also put some extra strength into my legs and get out of here into a safe distance.
「Yo, Centipede! If you feel like aiming at something, how about you aim there!?」
It may be my misunderstanding, but I fluttered Aradval Rebuild towards the giant centipede and I think that our eyes locked with one another for a moment.
There was a “main gun” type of turret that suddenly grew out of the side of the Centipede, and if I did not use my Critical Speed to escape, I would have certainly gotten smashed by the burning shell of a smaller spider that was lunched from that turret towards the Fortress Gargantua, making a direct hit on it.
「NAISHO!!!」
Now, let’s pack it one by one! It’s a Fortress drop items time!
