ShangriLa Frontier Chapter 563: Crimson Feathers Burning Bright Part 2

Pencil Warrior: I think that those guys are way too naïve. Think that this thing is pretty much over now?
Sanraku: No, I don’t think it is. There is still a chance that they might actually turn this thing around somehow. Besides, as long as humans are involved, nothing can be said to be set in stone. Every HR specialist knows that.
Pencil Warrior: Yeah, you know what else they teach you at HR? That there is no such thing as someone who is irreplaceable. Especially if we are talking about mob characters with little to no personality to them. Basically, wasting time and resources on mob characters is the epitome of uselessness. Their only redeeming quality is if they can produce enough firepower to actually turn that into results.
Sanraku: Normally I would have to agree with you, but Nephilim Hollow is not your standard game, you see. In this game, as long as you have bullets left to shoot and a weapon that can shoot them, everything should be able to work out somehow. That’s why let’s just sit and watch for now.
Pencil Warrior: Ah, I kinda like that idea, even though it’s not something that I would usually go by. However, we may be talking here all we want, but let’s be honest: not a single one of those guys could possibly hold a candle to Rust-chan, am I right?
Sanraku: Well, that is so obvious that there is no actual need for me to say it, right? But I was just talking in general here. General.
Sanraku: By the way, did you notice? Or has it slipped your attention?
Pencil Warrior: I have never seen Nephilim Hollow’s Girl in real action, so I can’t say much, but I have only heard that “Crimson” is her favorite color scheme, so there’d be that but…… Oh, so you have come, huh……?
Sanraku: But it seems that a huge part of her success is the support she gets from Mold. A whole lot of it.
Pencil Warrior: So? How strong is she really all on her own?
Sanraku: Hmm, I wouldn’t call her Wezaemon level of powerful, but she’s pretty close to that, I think? She’s like a raging typhoon that just steamrolls all over you without a single care in the world……
Pencil Warrior: Dude, seriously now?
* * *
It’s really a curious little thing…… I have noticed it only after looking closely at it, but did you honestly think that I would omit such a thing, Rust, you absolute asshole? That cute little fourteen color scheme concept of yours? And that instead of stabilizing the unstable balance of the armless Nephilim, it chose to follow the motion of the other party’s attempt at escaping? As a result becoming even more unstable by the individual injection of the booster?
But it was moving as expected, and seeing that, the remaining players apparently changed their strategy, going for a pincer attack. In order to get out of a sticky situation like that, one needs to control their booster perfectly, not letting even a single unit go to waste and be very precise with their movements.
The Nephilim which was custom made by Rust, aimed to reduce the number of its weapons for the sake of increased mobility. But it did not reduce the amount of armor all that much, so it was not the fastest it could have been. But it was more than enough to give it a head start over other competitors.
Therefore, the fastest Nephilim here is not the Crimson one with one arm, but actually those with the light armor covering their bodies. And that’s the truth. And they would be fast enough here to actually give Rust a good run for her money.
「I think that in this particular scenario the light-weight frames are going to circle around the Crimson one, keeping it trapped. This would make it possible for the gunners to be able to take shots at it all the time, eventually bringing it down.」
「But, if that would really be the case here…… Then wouldn’t that make the gunners first priority targets?」
「Well, yes, but the gunners do not need to stay still in order to attack. So that would mean that they will be harder to target if they just stay on the move all the time.」
The two Nephilims are still trying to keep Rust trapped inside of the circle that they have created. And they were constantly making the cage smaller, making it difficult for their prey to escape at the same time leaving some safe distance for themselves to mount. At the first glance, this situation did not look all too good.
It was actually amazing that the gunners were able to target the moving prey so accurately while it was on the move all the time, but combining it with the cage from the lightly armored frames was making this strategy even more deadly and efficient. It is a mere demonstration, but those fighting techniques are certainly good to note down for future reference.
「But that Crimson Nephilim…… I feel like it will be able to pull this off, surprisingly.」
「Yeah, when it comes down to Nephilim battles, the one who has the better grasp of the way in which their frame is moving is the one who is going to emerge on top. Without a shred of a doubt.」
* * *
Pencil Warrior: I don’t know about you, but I have developed a sudden urge to go watch some artistic gymnastics all of a sudden.
Sanraku: Those are the techniques that anyone can do, but only a select few can hope to master them.
Pencil Warrior: What do you mean by that?
Sanraku: The Nephilim is basically a ball-jointed mannequin, so you can make rather unreasonable poses sometimes if you know how to do it.
Sanraku: But the Player who is moving the frame doesn’t actually know that they can do that, because no tutorial will ever inform you about it. Usually, when someone tries to make some advanced moves, it will result in the frame becoming stiff and unable to move.
Pencil Warrior: Ah, so it’s like, you think you cannot make a move like that because your normal body would be unable to do that?
Sanraku: Yeah, something like that. But even if this is not Rust out there, it is someone who understands the full range of Nephilim moves.
Sanraku: By the way, Mold seems to be unable to understand all that for some reason.
Pencil Warrior: Uwah, I don’t really think that he has a bright future ahead of him if he struggles with things like that.
Pencil Warrior: I mean, us commentators have to progressively discuss what is going on on the screen so you’d best start to think about it in advance.
Sanraku: Could you stop already with the real life ghost writer?
Sanraku: For the time being, why don’t you praise the brave pilot, who is acting as a demon on the battlefield while the circumstances are not in their favor at all? Seriously, to be able to maintain cold blood and keep on evading in a situation like that is something that requires some true nerves of steel right there.
Pencil Warrior: Improvise, adapt, overcome much?
* * *
「Oh my, those are some great moves out there! Two machines that try to gain an upper hand by surrounding the Crimson Nephilim, which is evading them due to its irregular movements. This is the advantage of using the broken balance of the frame’s arm, and hitting the remaining players when they least expect it. What do you think of that, Eight-san?」
「Huh? Who, me!?」
Oi, so that’s what your idea of ghostwriting is? Just dumping your responsibilities onto some else? You absolute bastard, you?
