【Sam’s POV】

As Reishu looked at us with confusion, Jack sat down on the sofa while I started preparing some tea by heating the water in the teapot by using magic.

“For now, why don’t you sit down?”

In the face of adversity, it’s critical to put aside all your emotions and think logically. The results of allowing your emotions to cloud your judgement are nothing short of catastrophic. However, Reishu frowned at my offer.

“I’m not sitting anywhere. I’m going to kill those demons right now, either with or without you.”

“Please calm down for a moment, Reishu.”

“Fuck off.”

He cursed us, turned around and started heading towards the door. Good grief, this guy is incorrigible. I looked towards Jack and motioned him to do his thing. He swiftly walked towards Reishu and gripped his shoulder to stop him.

“Unhand me.”

Reishu glared at Jack and threatened him.

“Like I was saying, calm down for a moment-”

“I said release me!”

He screamed and caught Jack’s hand to remove it, but before he could do it, he was already lying face-down on the floor with Jack’s knee on his neck.

“How about you calm down for a moment, kid.”

The positions were reversed now, with Jack doing the threatening.

“Leave him, Jack.”

He looked at me with a questioning gaze, but complied when I nodded. Reishu got up, dusted his clothes, and properly looked towards me this time.

“What do you want?”

He was clearly pissed off.

“I know you’ve lost your daughter just a few moments ago, and I understand how you might be feeling, but please calm yourself for a moment and listen to what I’ve got to say.”

“You understand? Who are you kidding, huh? As if you could ever understand. I am not calming down. I’m going to kill those who did this to Simone! If this bullshit is all that you have to say, then I’d prefer you don’t waste my time. I’m going now. And if you try to stop me this time, then I’ll see as you my enemies.”

Huh.

So, he still won’t come clean, huh. Fine then.

“Don’t fuck with us.”

The moment I said that, Jack standing beside me released his bloodlust. His sheer pressure his bloodlust put on Reishu was enough to stop him in his tracks.

“You are King Reishu Zestringer, a 1000 years old war-mongrel who has more than likely seen many deaths in his life. And you want us to believe that you’ve gone insane just because you lost your 25 years old daughter? Don’t fuck with us! Who exactly do you think you are talking to, huh? We’ll kill you, you know.”

His eyes widened and beads of sweat formed on his head.

“Now, I’ll ask you again. Calm down for a moment so we can discuss certain things.”

However, the moment I said this, he lost it again.

“How the fuck can I calm down you fucker?! I just lost Simone, my only daughter! The only one I loved after my wife’s death! She has been killed by a demon, and you are asking me to calm down when what right now I should be avenging her?!”

Ah, I see. He seems to be misunderstanding. Well, I guess myself am also at fault for that.

“You seem to be misunderstanding me, Reishu.”

“What?”

“By asking you to calm down, I’m not telling you to forget your emotions and your daughter. What I actually want you to do is to take the wrath within you right now and bury it deep inside your heart, to let it smoulder there and grow into a calm all-consuming hellfire. You must not let your anger cloud your judgement.”

“And how exactly would that help me, huh?!”

He barked again.

“It would help you look at things more logically, which in turn will help you in extracting your vengeance in the most optimal way.”

This time, Reishu went silent, probably because I used the word vengeance. His eyes were telling me to go on.

“You want to go to demon country and fight and annihilate the demons. I understand that sentiment, but it’s not really viable right now. You don’t really think that you can defeat everyone present there alone, do you? There are the four Commandments, and then there is the Demon King, one of the most powerful beings on the planet. If you were to directly clash with her, she’ll fuck you harder than a dragon in heat.”

And dragons in heat are the horniest creatures I have ever seen. Reishu seemed to be at a loss for words against my argument. I continued.

“Then there is the question whether the killer really was a demon or not.”

“What do you mean?”

“It’s not entirely impossible for a human to procure demonic mana from somewhere and use it here to frame the demons.”

“And why exactly would you think that?”

With my every argument, Reishu seemed to be recovering his sanity. Good good.

“It’s simple. While I’m truly sorry for your loss, and I myself am angry just how they killed Simone, practically speaking, Simone’s death is inconsequential for the demons. They gain absolutely nothing by killing her like this.”

“T-That’s……….”

His voice trailed off in the end. Seems like he finally understood my point.

“And here is the last thing. If you can look at things more objectively and calmly, who knows what you might discover. If you manage to play a really important part in this whole war, then it’s possible that Phiria will recognise your efforts. When that happens, you can ask her for a reward. And that reward could be the resurrection of your daughter.”

“R-Really?! Phiria can bring her back to life?!”

Reishu exclaimed.

“Of course, she can. She’s not the Goddess of Life for nothing, ya know.”

“Simone…… can be brought back………”

He muttered to himself in a daze.

“Yes.”

And I affirmed his thoughts. Tears rolled down his eyes again, and he barely stopped himself from falling to his knees. The light of intelligence returned in his eyes.

Seems like the Reishu I know is back, though he has changed somewhat.

“I see. I’ve calmed down now. Thank you.”

He thanked me with a slight smile. His eyes, however, now contained a fierce will to avenge.

“Don’t mention it. Go, rest for now: you are clearly exhausted. We all are, in fact. We’ll discuss everything tomorrow morning. By the way, what have you done with Simone’s body?”

“It is…….. still lying in her bed, lifeless. I was too distraught to do anything about it.”

“I see. Please take care of it. Preserve it, in fact. We might need it when asking for resurrection from Phiria.”

“Understood.”

He quickly walked out of the room after saying that. I could hear him running through the hallway. When the sound of his footsteps faded, Jack spoke up.

“I’ll be going too, then.”

He should. I don’t want people to misunderstand us.

“Yeah, thank you for your help.”

He also left the room. When everything became quiet again, I proceeded to the next part of my today’s plan. Good grief, being a Hero is hard.

Well then, let’s find out about the real culprit.

⟦Maxwell.⟧
