【Sam’s POV】
“There you are, Sam!”
As I was idling on the plains devoid of even a single tree, I heard a shout from overhead. However, the shout was feminine. I looked up and saw that an unfamiliar dragon was flying towards me.
Well, given the timing and that the dragon knows my identity, it would be safe to assume that its Shiggurath. But why is her voice feminine now? It’s exactly similar to her voice in her human form.
She landed in front of me. Her large build was blocking the sunlight, for which I am thankful as I was getting fed up with it.
However, her appearance had been changed. Her body was red in colour, and she was now smaller. Well, she’s at least properly following my instructions. I can’t let people know her true identity after all the pains I have gone through to hide it.
“Thanks for retrieving me. But why is your voice like this now?”
“My voice? Ah, I can actually change my voice however I like. Since you got confused the last time and took me for a male, I went ahead and changed my voice.”
“You didn’t really need to do that though.”
“How can you say that? It’s pretty troubling to be taken as a male when I’m a legitimate female.”
“Is that so?”
“Yes, it is.”
I will never understand women.
“Anyway, hop on my back. Let’s go now.”
“Sure.”
I want to go back and rest a bit in my soft comfy bed.
I climbed on her back and firmly held on to one of the pointy scales on her back.
“We’re taking off now!”
She announced after making sure that I had safely gotten on her back.
She flapped her wings and we started flying towards the palace in Blatan. As I had expected, it took us only 10 minutes to reach that place.
Just before we entered the city, Shiggurath turned into her human form. At the gates, we met Simone with some soldiers and a carriage.
“Welcome back, Samuel. My father is waiting for you at the castle.”
“I see. But to think that Re- King Reishu is still not letting you off after that failed assassination attempt. My condolences.”
Simone scowled at me and spoke in a displeased tone.
“I don’t need your pity. Now get inside.”
“Yes yes, as you say, my princess.”
We got in the carriage. I sat with Shiggurath, while Simone sat across me.
“So, for how long were we in the dungeon?”
I need to know about that first. I don’t even know how much time had passed in the dungeon.
“You were in there for about 2 days.”
Hmm? That’s a lot of time.
“I see.” I turned to Shiggurath. “So when did you and the others get back?”
“Yesterday night. At first, we got separated. I was with Cornellia, while Jack was with Liera. Chloe was alone-”
“What?”
Shiggurath abruptly stopped speaking.
“Chloe was alone, you say?”
What a blunder. To think that Chloe was roaming in that dungeon alone. Just what the fuck is Jack doing?
“Y-Yes. Why are you making such a scary expression?”
She asked nervously.
I’m making a scary expression?
“Ah, sorry for that. Is she alright?”
“Yes, she’s totally fine.”
Phew.
“Though she has been quite worried for you since yesterday.”
“Worried for me? Why would she do that?”
I see no reason why she would worry about me.
“Who wouldn’t be worried for a friend, you fool?”
Simone interjected from the side.
“Yeah, that makes sense. Anyway, what about you? Are you alright?”
I once again asked Shiggurath. I can’t have my greatest fighting power be injured, after all.
“Of course.”
She smiled weakly and replied. Her answer was pretty dubious, but I can’t question her in front of Simone.
“Anyway, it seems you didn’t die there.”
Simone spoke sarcastically.
“Actually, I did die. But I was reincarnated by the Goddess Phiria.”
“As if I would be that lucky……..”
She muttered in a cynical tone. This girl is quite a handful.
“Anyway, what about Reishu? Is he alright?”
“What could have happened to him? There is nothing in this world that can even touch my noble father.”
She declared in a haughty tone while emphasising her barren chest. Just then, Shiggurath pinched me on my thigh. I looked in her direction, and she was giving me a really cold glare.
Did she perhaps notice me staring at Simone’s chest? Let’s act as if nothing happened.
“It’s fine to admire your father, but I hope you don’t make an utterly stupid decision due to overconfidence and end up losing him.”
“Haah? Are you an idiot? There’s no way something like that would happen. I’m always making moves to ensure that no one can even touch him.”
To think Reishu’s daughter would be a yandere. Oof. I hope you stay safe, Reishu.
“Like making sure that no woman comes near him?”
“That’s a part of my job.”
“You’ve become quite honest, haven’t you?”
Though I’m not really sure whether that is a good or bad thing. Well, as long as Reishu doesn’t show any excessive interest in me, I’m sure that Simone would leave me alone.
“You already know about the real me. There’s no use in hiding it from you.”
What about Shiggurath though?
“That’s certainly true. You really love your father, huh.”
“That goes without saying. I love him the most in this world!”
She declared confidently.
“How wonderful. Just make sure to cherish him while you can. Life has a really bad habit of snatching away the things that you love the most.”
“You speak as if you yourself have lost someone.”
“I did lose my mother when I was little.”
For the first time, regret flashed in the eyes of Simone.
“I’m sorry…….”
Even she can be decent sometimes huh. Well, as I always say, no one is purely good or evil.
“Don’t be. I was an infant when she died, so I don’t know anything about her except her face. So I don’t really feel anything for her.”
“Is that so? Good for you, I guess.”
Ah right, she also lost her mother while she was giving her birth. I guess my loss would have resonated with her deep inside.
Unfortunately, I feel nothing over my mother’s loss. Not that I’m aware of what parental love feels like.
“Yeah don’t worry about it. I was actually sadder when I lost my PS4.”
“What’s that?”
“You can think of it as a magical artefact that lets you play games on a screen. In the game, you can control a character by a handheld controller, and live his story.”
However, Simone still seemed to be confused about it.
“You can play on it with your father and get closer to him as a result.”
Her eyes immediately started shining.
“What sort of wonderful artefact is that?! I want it!”
“Well, if we win this war and return safely, I can procure one for you. In return, you won’t try to assassinate me again. Deal?”
She seemed to be troubled over my proposal as she kept thinking about it. Oi, does she really want to kill me that much?
“Fine. It’s a deal!”
“Understood.”
At that moment, we reached the castle. We disembarked from the carriage. I greeted the guards at the gate as they opened it for me, and walked inside, towards my room.
As I turned right into a corner, I saw Chloe ahead of me. The moment she saw me, she broke into a run and leaped on me.
“Sam!”
She hugged me tightly as I struggled to maintain balance.
“Sam!”
She shouted again.
What the actual fuck?
